He is a PG who can pass the ball at his 20,10,7 days. He is fast so he will not slow down SF anf CM. He is still young and not peaked. We may get him since his team doesn't need him, unlike other PGs either too old or playing major role for their team.
Damon hasn't been anywhere close to 20,10,7 days since his first 3 years in the league when he 20, 8, 4 guy. But that was 4 or 5 years ago.
They say some of the best trades are the ones that don't go through. The Stoudamire trade that Houston almost did has to fall in this category. Its fair to say we would have no Francis or Yao had it gone through.
Rockets/Rockets sweeten deal forRaptors /Fiveplayers, several draft picks offered By EDDIE SEFKO Staff CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The waiting for Damon Stoudamire continues. But it could end today, one way or another. The Rockets remained poised to acquire the Toronto point guard, using a deal that would send at least five players and several draft picks to the Raptors as bait. The Rockets are the clear front-runners and an announcement that Stoudamire , Walt Williams and Zan Tabak will be coming to Houston could happen this afternoon. As one source close to the negotiations said: "I'd say there's a good chance of that happening." But there was nothing definitive late Thursday night. Word leaked out of Toronto while the Rockets were playing at Charlotte that the Raptors had opened talks with Sacramento and Portland about scenarios that might send Stoudamire to one of those teams. Sacramento, apparently, was quickly dismissed by the Raptors , who have been told by Stoudamire and his agent that the 5-10 star wants to be traded to a playoff team. But the Portland situation is something that could cause the Rockets' trade to be delayed - or deemed inadequate. Stoudamire , 24, grew up in Portland and the Blazers reportedly are willing to give up Kenny Anderson. But insiders say the Raptors are not enamored with Anderson and would want more for Stoudamire . Several Rockets believed Toronto could be playing the Rockets' offer against other bidders for Stoudamire . "They are playing the Rockets for the fool, big time," said one player who requested anonymity. "It's happening again. It took four players to get one (Charles Barkley) the last time. So Toronto is saying, `This is easy.' " But sources say the Raptors and Rockets are eager to finalize the trade today. But it would not be a reach to say the Raptors and Blazers could work a deal with fewer players involved just as quickly. Other trade rumors were dying on the vine Thursday. Indiana, Orlando, Vancouver, New York, New Jersey and San Antonio, among others, had varying interest in Stoudamire , but none of the offers made by any of those teams appears to be enticing to the Raptors . The Rockets, meanwhile, have sweetened their offer. It was never as little as three players for the three Raptors . But now, the deal is Kevin Willis, Mario Elie , Matt Maloney, Matt Bullard, Emanual Davis and perhaps another player or two. The Rockets also will ship several draft picks to the Raptors , including at least one first-rounder. The trade had been such a hot rumor for the past three days that the Raptors have been besieged with phone calls from other NBA teams trying to make a better offer. Two sources, one in Toronto, said Thursday that some teams with no apparent sincere interest in Stoudamire worked behind the scenes to try to sabotage the Rockets' attempt to trade for the Toronto point guard. Several executives, mostly for Western Conference teams, called Raptors officials to pass along some negative information about the Rockets' players, none of which had substance. Nevertheless, concerns about whether certain Rockets would be willing to play in Canada played a role in the Raptors ' decision to reopen talks with other teams interested in trading for Stoudamire . Even so, the Rockets remain strong contenders to acquire Stoudamire . On the move? The latest trade proposal involving the Rockets and Toronto Raptors . The deal could be announced today: JOINING THE ROCKETS Damon Stoudamire , 5-10 guard: Third-year player from Arizona is considered one of the best young point guards in the NBA. Walt Williams, 6-8 forward: In his sixth year from Maryland, Williams is a versatile player who can play big guard or small forward. Zan Tabak, 7-0 center: Former Rockets project has become an effective player.
Fiver players and "several" draft picks, including a #1, for Stoudemire, Williams and a scrub -- and the Raptors passed on it? With decision making like that a few years back, no wonder they suck so badly today. Even if he's not getting any PT, I think Stoudemire has found the team where he truly belongs. I wonder who he shares a cell with when he's on the road?
