I don't think giving the order is very important (though it was a risk and if there was a mistake in the operation, it'd be the President who took the blame, not the Seals). But, what the Administrations have done to get the operation in place is important. Bush's Admin started the hunt for Bin Laden and built all intelligence apparatus for finding him. But, Bush also put it on a lower priority to concentrate resources on other endeavors. Obama put a high priority on it, and it might be said that a different president may not have done so and therefore would not have had the resources in place to find Bin Laden. That's where Obama's contribution comes. (Though personally I doubt whether the priority should have been so high.)

I thought the thing about GWB moving faster was ironic in light of the fact that he had supposedly let bin Laden get away at Tora Bora.

Bush lost his keys in the darkened caves and corners of Afghanistan/Pakistan and went looking for them in Iraq because the light was better there.

BTW This a total hit piece written by a long time Obama hater and British right-wing apparatchik; Toby Harnden. Harnden writes for the Washington Times, the Daily Telegraph and other right wing news outlets.

doubt he even has a true source.

When Obama kills OBL, he had nothing to do with it.

When a helicopter crashes near Tehran, it's Carter's fault.

When Saddam gets captured, it was all Bush.

When we botch up in Lebanon, none one talks about it, because Reagan wasn't responsible for it.

I think Richard Clarke's opinion on the Bush administration and Bin Laden tell you everything you need to know about this.

Aside from being generally misleading as a poster, I can totally see why the OP rounded up the thread title to make it sound like multiple SEALs.

    here's Obama:

And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.

Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.

    Here's W:

The success of yesterday's mission is a tribute to our men and women now serving in Iraq. The operation was based on the superb work of intelligence analysts who found the dictator's footprints in a vast country. The operation was carried out with skill and precision by a brave fighting force. Our servicemen and women and our coalition allies have faced many dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and in their effort to bring hope and freedom to the Iraqi people. Their work continues, and so do the risks. Today, on behalf of the nation, I thank the members of our Armed Forces and I congratulate 'em.

    Striking, n'est ce pas?

    Basso,
Was any of what he said false? Didn't he give the order? Wasn't it his national security advisiory team?

If you are looking for the ultimate responsibility, look no further than yourselves. These politicians are elected by you to act on your behalf.
