Ok, thanks... They were cheap when I knew someone who moved in there 15 years ago - at least cheaper than my house in Montrose - like 1/3 of the price for an equivalent house and the old shady trees were as good as West U. 30 years ago you couldn't give away some of the really nice old stuff in The Heights. Gentrification flipped that where that is some of the most expensive land in the city. I guess I missed my big chance to be a real estate mogul. It is a neighborhood I'd use to demonstrate the entire SE side is not a ghetto.
How much are apartments in acres homes nowadays? I'd to like to save money on housing and shorten the daily commute to my drug dealers!
I knew some people who lived in Friendswood back in the day. They lived in Sun Meadow ("Sun Ghetto"). We would always hear stories on the news about people lighting the Speedy Mart on fire.
A lot of them have had improvements made and there are a few that look like new construction..probably raised values...There are still some "runts" here and there, but those still probably go for 150-170k. There's a convent across the street that was built in 1926, not sure if you knew. It's a huge lot, but completely surrounded by trees and a brick wall.
I lived right off Monroe and the gulf freeway until I was about 13. Very familiar with Bellfort, Broadway, Telephone Rd. I went to school over there at Garden Villas. Used to eat all the time at the Casa Ole. It's been a few years since I've driven through there. Kinda worried I will stick out as an easy target, being a white guy driving a BMW. Any fellow Clutchfans want to be my tour guide/ security detail so that I can go see where I grew up? I live in Clear Lake now, so stuck on the southeast side.
Given the canabalism stuff that happened in Matamoros awhile back, Matamoros Meat Market is one of the most unintentionally hilarious names for a business ever.
Long before that. I graduated high school in 97. Did you happen to be in band there? I heard that Ms Cummings is still there. She was awesome.
Right in the middle of the "ghetto" and this isn't even one of the nice ones http://search.har.com/engine/6671-Lindy-Ln-Houston-TX-77023_HAR45436472.htm Here's one of the newer homes:
Go old school (and by old school, I mean it's across the street from an old school) and visit La Casita on Canal. They have the best barbacoa.
That area near settegast is not ghetto.. Have you not been down navigation st The second ward area is getting revived with new neighborhood renovations and the houses are being bough up to build condos and townhomes. It's supposed to be the new Washington area in a couple years
the entire city of houston is ghetto and i love it, the bullets flying just adds character. it's just like every other big city. I live in spring branch/westview, i walk 1/2 block and i'm in a shady area. with that said, because my son spends holidays with me, our christmas eves and NYEs are spent in Katy with my sis. too many idiots shooting their guns to ring in the new year. it's funny though. the neighborhood watch or whatever complains about me taking my tree limbs out 3 days before heavy trash pick up but drunk dorks can shoot guns and nothing happens. i saw a guy wearing a clutch city shirt stopped to compliment him on the shirt. wanted to ask if he posted here but i didn't want to make it seem like a cat call.
