this is it. they want to limit innings on mcullers and vv's arms. I doubt feldman gets the boot from the rotation as much as mc and vv get extra days off in the rotation
As popular it is to hate on Qualls... I will say that he has looked "better" since getting the nerve injection/rest that put him on the DL. More movement on his sinker and an up-tick in velocity. Not nominating him for a prominent role any time soon... but I'd take the guy from last year (and the one who started this season) for shared 7th inning duty with Harris (who has looked less and less effective with more exposure).
Don't think Feldman goes to pen but we will see Gonna depend on how they want to handle Lance and Vince innings, which we really have no idea Nottingham might be good, but he was really a non prospect till he got to Lancaster
Nice get. I hope this is the only move before the deadline though. With Lowrie and Springer coming back by September this team is looking good. Maybe if you can get some bullpen depth for Grossman, Hoes and players of that ilk.
He's a Houston native and a life-long Astros fan. I'm sure that was a huge part of the reason for pulling the trade.
I agree that Velasquez should be the one that goes to the pen and not Feldman. I think it will be good for VV.
Respectfully disagree. He was a great pick in the 2013 6th round that signed for slightly overslot. He tore up Quad Cities this year prior to his promotion to Lancaster, so to say he is a Lancaster product is slightly disingenuous. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the trade, but I think the fact that we gave up our top C prospect is more of a sign that we are confident in Kazmir being more than a rental.
great trade. some people are only going to be happy if they trade complete ****, bottom of barrel minor leaguers for premium MLB talent. it's hilarious. if it eases your concern, nottingham is unlikely to stick at C anyway, making him that much less valuable, organizationally.
That and he was an effective starting pitcher who could be had for low level prospects (based on what the selling team's GM values). If Kazmir is lights out the rest of the year, there will still be teams lining up to try and sign him... and given that this will likely be the last "big" contract of his career, he owes nobody any favors. Hell, if he's set on staying here... and the Astros want him here... why not start negotiating an extension now?
absolutely love this move. feldman in long relief. he would excel in that role. all we need is for someone to show up at 1st base and we are set to dohminate.
Does this improve or hurt our chances to land Cole from the Phillies? Are we no longer interested? Just think if we got Cole as well.
Happy we got him but wish we would've signed him outright when he was looking for a big league contract and when we had the chance. Do yall think this is the only move we make?

I wonder what a fair extension would be for Kazmir. 32 year old, not a huge track record of success but peaking.... maybe 4 years, $60MM?
