when Dekker finally played I was pretty impressed at what he was able to do and thought maybe with continued growth he could be a Carl Landry type player off the bench that was reliable for 6-10 points every night, rebounds, hustle and tenacity. But he hasn't shown anything else at all in LA during the times when he played. I would be surprised if he makes it past his initial NBA contract right now. Definitely worth taking a chance on for Cleveland but he isn't someone that should think about relying on right now.
And Montrezl just signed for more than the Rockets would have paid him to be a back up so we'd have lost him this offseason anyway.
I really could care less about Dekker (since he's no longer a Rocket), but I wish we still had Montrezl on the bench.
The question you have to ask yourself with Dekker, what are his NBA skills? defense? no rebounding? no shot blocking? no 3pt shooting? no passing? no post up game? no create his own shot? no cutting? eh filling the wing on a fast break? yes athletic? yes So, a rich man's KJ McDaniels? Dekker needs to work on his 3pt shooting. Then he can be Omri Casspi.
He moves well without the ball, a dying skill. And he's athletic going to the rim. Might have a better chance staying the league by focusing on defense instead of shooting.
The clippers didnt receive cash from this deal. They paid the cavs to take dekker of their books. Dekker appears to have been a swing and a miss 2015 pick, while Harrell appears to be a second round steal.
I don't buy that. Dekker was an ok rotation player when he was here. Doc doesn't have a clue what he is doing, so I wouldn't write him off yet
Say what you want about Dekker, but the dude doesn't take himself too seriously. That diva b**** Durant would never tweet something like this.
Clippers sending CASH to the Cavs to take Dekker. Like Rockets did for Nanu to Dallas. Dekker negative asset.
With the acquisition of Sam Dekker, the Cavs are still the team to beat in the East. Philly, Beantown, and Raptortown need to go through Sam Dekker and Tristan TT BOY Thompson, and VERY VERY LARGE BRAIN JR SMITH in the East if they want to go to the NBA Finals. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/24815653/tristan-thompson-sees-lebron-less-cavs-team-beat-east The Cleveland Cavaliers may not have LeBron James this season, but Tristan Thompson says they remain the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. "We're still four-time Eastern Conference champions, so until you take us down from that, teams ain't got much to say. Boston, Philly, they ain't got much to say," Thompson told reporters on Thursday. "Boston had homecourt Game 7 and lost. Philly, you guys almost got swept. Toronto -- we already know that story. So until someone takes us down, there's not much they can really say."
