The correct answer is "combo" forward. Depends on the matchups. He can guard some 4's but i wouldnt expect him to guard all 4's...LMA comes to mind. The same with 3's.
He's a small power forward. The pendulum of opinion on Dekker has definitely swung completely opposite of what it was a year ago.
nice analysis but i am not giving up dekker and trez for George let me remind you its their first year in the league they are basically 2 rookies and they beasting playing mature athletic high iq ball on a contender on 2 bargain contracts. pass... they part of our core now
Sam Dekker is a "terrific" forward and we're luck to have him but he'll never be like Shawn Marion. Ever. Marion truly was one of a kind. In the history of the game there was/is/will be guys that are bigger, taller, stronger, faster, more talented and flat out better than Marion but his skill set and the way he did things was unique in large part due to his killer "first jump" and not just that but his second and third jumps were fast as hell too. A human pogo stick he was. The only guy who had a better first jump than him was Dennis Rodman but he couldn't do half the other things Marion brought. In his best season he put up 21.8 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 1.7 blocks and 2 steals all while shooting a ridiculous fg% and finishing 3rd in efficiency. Plus he could guard all 5 positions. Pretty crazy for a guy that was 6'7 and only 220. He did it before Lebron but flew under the radar for the most part. Draymond does it today and gets all the media love and he's not nearly as good as Marion was.
Sam Dekker is an overlooked forward. Why didn't he make the Rising Challenge while someone crappy like Marquesse Chriss and Okafor did?
It's how you follow it up that decides who you are. And he laid an egg. Still rootin for him but that's a bad sign.
