Can't teach height...& in my opinion McGee would be the perfect fit in the Rockets line up.

Words like "perfect" and "Javale" shouldn't be in the same sentence.

If you put the word "not" in there, you can probably make the sentence work.

Not going after McGee at least indicates the Rockets believe there is a good chance at being full strength going into the playoffs. The upside and flexibility of the current roster at full strength is what is needed to win in the playoffs.

McGee would be a nice addition if there was a roster spot to spare for him but this roster was locked-in at the trade deadline for better or worse. If the Rockets get full health in the front court plus a healthy (and hopefully somewhat rested) Harden, then the Rockets likely advance out of round 1. If the Rockets can't get healthy, the addition of McGee or anyone else wouldn't be able to stop another first round exit.

I think the Rockets are willing to drop a game here or there right now if it means saving team chemistry for the playoffs. Having McGee for a stretch of 15 games isn't as important as ensuring that guys like Brewer, Josh Smith, D-Mo, Terry, T Jones, etc are all on the same page. If this were 15 games ago, I'd say you take a chance on him, but now, it doesn't seem like a positive move. Let Dorsey fill the gap until Dwight comes back, and then hope Jones can remain healthy for the remainder of the season.

Recent history tells me we tend to lose leads with DMo playing against bigger more physical centers. So let me propose this scenario. Lets say we're playing a team with a huge frontline in a critical playoff game. Dwight gets in early foul trouble. Who on our current team do you feel comfortable w/ playing the center position for 15-25minute stretches? Who exactly is gonna keep the bigger center's off the boards & provide rim protection?

THIS ties everything up in a bow as to why another big is necessary. If Dwight is not 100%, or can't play (foul trouble/another injury), then what is the fallback option? D-Mo against the best bigs in the post season is a mismatch. And don't want to hate on Dorsey, but there is a reason he's been out of the league for so long, he's a third string center, at best.

Yeah, Dorsey sucks. McGee also sucks. If either of them are getting critical playoff minutes, then you're doing something wrong.

While Javale McGee is somewhat better in the rim protection department than Joey Dorsey, he probably isn't the better defensive player overall.

Dorsey's defense is a pretty unique blend of quick and strong hands, good positioning, good p&r D, some shot blocking and rim protection and strong rebounding (although he is better in OffRebs). The amount of deflections and tips Joey gets is often overlooked since it doesn't necessarily show in public stats. Sure, he is not as athletic as he used to be (he might be smarter, though) which is a problem with his standing reach and he fouls a bit too much. But if he were a couple of inches taller, we could not afford him anyway as he would be all-NBA caliber defender.

If McGee is better on offense, it isn't by much, either. Dorsey sets solid screens and gets extra possessions and is a surprisingly good passer. He also rarely attempts things he cannot do, can you say the same about McGee? Yes, McGee is better at FTs with career% of 58.7, which is okayish for a center but nothing great really.

When we get Dwight, TJones, and Josh Smith all healthy, we have enough rim protection and rebounding to contend. If Dwight isn't healthy (or near that), we won't contend anyway.

Also, if Dwight gets in foul trouble then yes, we will suffer in rebounding and rim protection. But name me one team that doesn't/wouldn't? Take DeAndre Jordan out and you have Fat Boy Davis and Spencer F*n Hawes. Take Robin Lopez out you get past his prime Caveman or Always injured Freeland. Marc Gasol to Kosta Koufos is a really, really big drop as well and Koufos is one of the best backup bigs around. Andrew Bogut to Mo Speights (no D) or Ezeli (no O)? Funnily that's exactly like Rockets with D-Mo (bad D at C) or Dorsey (bad O).

So even if there weren't chemistry concerns or salary cap implications, I'm not really sure we should be interested. What we would gain in some things would probably be offset in others.

Once again, we'd have to cut some guaranteed salary. We aren't eligible for the injury exception

    Please stop, just stop

Ppl get too attached to our guys to the point they grossly overrate them while underrating other guys that are available. Dorsey is a certified scrub. How do I know? Because every time he catches a pass under the rim and actually makes a shot, we say to ourselves "thank you lord, Dorsey didnt screw that up". That wont cut it in the playoffs. The Rockets need to bring in McGee to rebound, run the court & more importantly block shots. If he can block 2-3 shots in limited minutes & play a little defense we won't lose a step. But standing pat can NOT be a option for Daryl Morey
