I don't know if anyone posted this, but this is a blow to the Blazers. They may have athletic bodies, but they don't have true big bodies. This hurts them more then people realize. Sabonis may be old, but he is a good rebounder, and pulls big men away from the basket with his shooting. He is also a great passer. http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2001/0913/1251016.html Sabonis' NBA career could be done -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reuters VILNIUS, Lithuania -- Portland Trail Blazers center Arvydas Sabonis could be heading home to his native Lithuania for this year's European basketball season. Sabonis Sabonis, a free agent after the last NBA season, has been put on the roster of Lithuania's champion squad Kaunas Zalgiris for the Euroleague season, Ginas Rutkauskas, Zalgiris' general manager, told Reuters by phone from Spain. Rutkauskas said Sabonis, barring any new offers from Portland, would be playing in the Euroleague season. He added that Sabonis has not signed a contract and would not elaborate on the financial terms of the deal. "If he wants to stay with Zalgiris he will stay," Rutkauskas said. Zalgiris, Euroleague winners in the 1998-99 season, begins its season against champions Kinder Bologna of Italy on Oct. 11.
Maybe I'm missing something, so help me if you could, but how could something dated 2 days ago(Thursday), and something that hasn't been posted in the forum yet be old news?
Of course it could hurt the Blazers - but if this was the Rockets I'm sure it would be considered by many as the infamous "blessing in disguise". Dale Davis, Shawn Kemp, and Zach Randolph would all see a much-needed increase in minutes.... Davis would surely be considered in the top 1/3 of starting centers in the league...
Of course it could hurt the Blazers - but if this was the Rockets I'm sure it would be considered by many as the infamous "blessing in disguise". And of course most of the Blazers fans will think that Dale Davis is one of the best centers in the NBA. I always thought that the Blazers would be better off running a lineup of Rasheed and Kemp starting. They wouldn't have a true center, but you would have 2 athletic guys (assuming Kemp is in shape) to come down and trap on big guys like Shaq. That's the sort of things the Supersonics used to do to Hakeem.
yeah, this is in estonian. we are almost neighbours to Lithuania . article says that Kaunas Zhalgiris officials already 'gave Sabonis up for Euroleague'
