Seems like what's holding this up is who falls tonight. If one of the big qbs falls and we can move to get him, this deal doesn't get done. If ones available to start the second, no go. Otherwise, we get it done. Makes me think we have a few guys in mind at qb, otherwise the fall back plan is Mallett. No way we trade for him to be a backup, and still draft a qb in the first two rounds.
It seems like that would take zero effort to accomplish at this point. If they wanted that to happen, it would happen. Fully within their control which makes it not very Splooge-worthy IMO.
Getting Clowney and having a top name QB fall in this draft would be miraculous...If that player is available, I see Mallet's situation dropping off. However, if that player isnt available, the Texans may pull that trigger...
So how does Mallett look now compared to Derek Carr. I say do the trade and draft Tuitt or Nix at at 2.1
meh, I'm so jaded by this franchise. I hope someone besides Richard is making these decisions because he turned in a potential super bowl team into a team that ended a season 0-14.
I would be willing to accept the price tag at 5th round pick. Keep in mind that comparing Mallet to any of the QBs in the draft directly is unfair because his contract runs out at the end of the year. Whereas any QB we take will be under control at cheap money for the next 4 years. Heck, even if the Texans like him, they can still pick him up for free next offseason. No reason to pay a decent pick for an extra year where he's not going to make much of a difference anyway.
low risk, high reward potential with mallet. especially considering that BOB coached him already. that seems worth a low draft pick if that's all the pats want. he was drafted in the 3rd rd draft but was rated as a 1st/2nd round pick. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/bOelaJGklxQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
