"played" in 38 games?? schaub started 2 games which he lost and saw the field 11 times in 3 years... he threw more than 5 passes in only 6 of those games. 4 of times he played were the final 2 games of the season (weeks 16-17). again what had he proven to say he was worth two 2nd rounders and swapping firsts..? i dont see why a 2nd rounder, 57th overall, is a big risk, we didnt have a 2nd last year.
If my scouts and various scouts around the league liked him and trusted he could grow into a good qb then a 2nd is pretty cheap. (insert brady's No S*** gif)
So you want to trade a pick that could probably be used on someone who could contribute immediately for someone who's not going to play this year, likely not next year either, possibly not ever, because you don't think a 2nd rounder is a big deal? If that's the case, we might as well package all of our draft picks in a trade for somebody. Whatever your gripes about Schaub, he played a hell of a lot more in Atlanta than Mallett has in New England. The book on Mallett is the same as it was when he came into the league because he shown anything. Not his fault, he's a backup to an elite QB who doesn't get injured, but the point still stands. There's really no reason for his stock to have risen. I don't get why he's all of a sudden "the answer". Just because NE let it be known that he's available? Again, I get the Schaub hate, but that doesn't mean you have to go slobbering every potential QB on the market.
its about finding schaubs potential replacement. you obviously wouldnt trade for him than let him walk away in FA. you extend him and let him learn the system, then in 2 years you hand him the team.. its no different than drafting a rookie qb in the 2nd that you feel is worth the pick, who also has proven nothing in the NFL.. how often do 2nd rounders contribute immediately anyway?? especially with a late pick like ours it might as well be a 3rd rounder. where the "contribute immediately" % drops significantly.. we had a 42nd overall guy who didnt contribute until mario went down, hell our first rounder didnt contribute or even start last season and we didnt even have a 2nd..
Ryan has 4 pass attempts, completed 1 of those and threw an INT. Schaub had 161 attempts, 84 completions, a 1-1 TD/INT ratio (5-2 ignoring his rookie season). Schaub had actually shown glimpses of being a capable starter and he was very popular among many GMs as a target. The difference in the 2 scenarios is very clear and are very different. One showed potential...the other showed absolutely nothing. The 2nd round pick is VERY valuable. You are severely underrating it. This isn't a basketball #2 pick. The hit rate on 2nd round picks is about 50% for the last 10 years. If you want to find Schaubs replacement you don't trade a 2nd round pick for a 3rd round selection after a year where the guy went 1 for 4 with 1 INT. Also, this isn't really the year where his replacement is expected to be addressed. More than likely is will, and should, be next year.
Mallet was picked 74th and we have a 57th pick.. Dont see the big deal, you cant trade for elite qbs without giving up an arm and a leg. You buy low on high ceiling players when you can. His value went up bc there havent been any mishaps that have been reported since hes been in NE, which is the reason why he dropped to the 3rd in 2011. He has a elite arm that can make every throw.
Simple way to look at this is: if he was in this year's draft (with all the experience gained backing up Brady, etc) and available when the Texans pick, would they pick him? If so, you make the trade. If not, you don't.
Depending on how you look at it... Hindsight _ they probably should have gave up a 2nd or 3rd round pick so he could have been here before OTA's and training camp and started the season off as the starter. May have one, two, or maybe even three more more wins.
After two games this year, the Texans were 2-0 and Fitzpatrick was second in the league in QBR. Hopefully, Mallet will be the answer, but one game doesn't mean he will.
You're right, of course. But I have to say...it certainly looks different with him out there. The way the ball zips off his hand...the throws down field.
Moar context for the context god. Opposing defense QB rating: Redskins - 31st Raiders - 28th Browns - 1st Mind you, Mallett didn't have Foster at his disposal either (one of the best pass blocking/catching RBs in the league).
Yea, I could be jumping the gun... I'm just excited to have a quarterback that can actually overthrow a receiver.
This was the first time all year BOB's "New England offense" actually looked like BOB's "New England offense." BOB has been talking all year about how he wants to speed things up on offense but it never happened. It finally happened on the first drive of the game with Mallet at QB.
This. It was clear that BOB was limited in what he could call with Fitz under center, and it was a nice to see how the offense looks with a QB that can air out the deep ball. I think it will really open things up in the running game as well as with the short passing game. Big test will be to see how Mallett handles the blitz. I remember on two occasions where the Browns blitzed and Mallett made the correct hot route adjustments with accurate passes to AJ and D. Johnson. That's how you survive as an immobile QB. Hopefully he keeps it up, but we'll see.
And hey, what a shock - the OL looked markedly better. Was he even sacked? I don't recall him even being rushed. He made two bad throws - and they were bad for the same reason: too much air. He zips his first pass to AJ or the deep ball to Hopkins (which was eventually picked) and I think they both go for 6. And that is sooooooo much easier to correct. Who knows if he can repeat it, but if he can... and if Foster is healthy this week... They can beat the Bengals. 6-5 with a game left with Indianapolis...........
Are you doing this because you think it's funny? I don't know if the guy tried it, had a problem with it, or was just a victim of pre-draft rumors - but even if he was mainlining the stuff between halves at Arkansas, he's been in the NFL for four seasons and, so far as we know, he's not in the NFL's drug program and has never been in any kind of off-field trouble. Bellicheck isn't keen on keeping guys around who are distractions, and BO'B doesn't deal for him if there's any indication he can't keep his nose clean. I'm fine with criticism for off-field decisions that impact the team. But bringing up a four-year old rumor serves absolutely no purpose and makes you look like a troll. Move on...
