From reading one of those links about him following up the matter with the RA and all, I can only gather something else must have happened during that fateful day that we did not hear about and right before he twittered he was jumping off the GW bridge. It seems like he was handling it well up to that point. Then, all of a sudden he now wants to kill himself? He already knew he was outted and that part didn't seem to be what was eating him as much as just wanting privacy. He didn't even seem that mad at his roommate in his postings...even considering staying if his roommate would cool it.

I'm at a loss after reading all that he did, how long he knew his roommate knew, and the steps he was taking to rectify the situation...why he then chose to kill himself? Pretty lame. It's not like he was at a dead end or anything. What...did the RA tell him to get over it and deal with it as he's not getting another dorm room? And, the cam only caught him kissing another guy and not the rest...so it wasn't like it was a full blown scandalous tape or something.

I don't get it. I guess he just flipped at some point and couldn't deal with it any more.

Funny often equals cruelty to someone. Making fun of someone is cruel. There actually is no difference. I've said what they did is wrong. So is making fun of the Star Wars Kid.

Like I said before, I wouldn't have done it, but I would have laughed if my friend had. Just like I would have laughed if he had put it up on Youtube and we had no idea what happened afterwards. Should making fun or hurting people be funny? No, yet we often laugh at others expense.

Sometimes you just gotta man up.

Back in high school i was on an IM and this ******* indian guy i knew sent me a message from a different screenname divulging all this personal r****ded **** ive done that he knew about, well my moms was in the room and it all happened so quick so she saw it and got pissed which pissed me off and then dude started talking **** on the IM, well i ended up finding out who it was and it wasnt no thoughts of suicide or anything i just went up to the dude i said "you think that **** was funny?" and he's all dude i was just playing and i beat his ass in the bathroom at school.

Now i know that this is NOWHERE near some ******* showing the world a secret of yours as big as being gay, im saying this bc it was his right to keep it secret until he was ready to let it be known but if it was me i would severely beat the **** out of this ******* and then we can exchange pressing charges if he wants.

theres no point in suicide really

Maybe it is the 'other guy' in the tape.
The relationship ended or something. <someone hurting you is 1 thing
someone hurting someone you care about is another . . . I would
have been more upset for the person with me than myself>
Or he grasp the enormity of the situation.

at this point it is all speculation.

I think the forum posting show us that he probably outwardly seemed well adjusted, while inside he was having major issues.

How can you look at the two and tell they shouldn't be roommates? They both look nerdy to me.

He should have said something to his roommate, and he shouldn't have killed himself, but he as a shy guy in general, he was probably too embarrassed to say anything to him.

Bottom line is, by the time you're a freshman in college you know better than to do ***** like this. Publicly outing someone in such a humiliating fashion? That's not immaturity, that's just being a horrible person.

It's easy to parrot platitudes like "suicide is never the answer", but the bottom line is that gay teens show remarkably high suicide rates (and I'm fairly certain that's common knowledge). If there's even a chance that you could be responsible for something like that, how do you not stop yourself from acting like such a ****tard?

Sure there is: Choice, audience, and stigma.

Choice in that some folks willingly choose to do stupid things and get made fun of, e.g., the buddy who goes to parties and drinks too much and dances on the piano.

Audience in that, generally, one has control over who is made aware of potentially embarrassing information being "made fun of".

And stigma, in that some things are not as recoverable as others. What was done to the star wars kid was not funny, but at least that can be shrugged off eventually. Unfortunately, the stigma of being gay is not something one can just "live with" necessarily in the USA - and it's very permanent. Who knows how scared this kid was of "coming out" and now it was forced on him - in a very brutal fashion.

There is a fundamental difference between, for example, a group of elementary school students making fun of the kid who accidentally wet his pants and a group of young adults secretly videotaping a young man trying to privately engage in a sexual activity a good part of the country finds disgusting. Again, I'm not sure how this is hard to understand.

The only reason you're not just laughing at his expense is because he killed himself. That's just plain shallow. *shakes head*

Homo kid was just being a drama queen. No one goes killing themselves unless they are truly ashamed of themselves. You just laugh it off. A friend of mine was secretly videotaped having sex by her boyfriend (night shot camera). We all just laughed about it, and the girl didn't even care. That being said acts of perversion should not be allowed in any dormitory.

I'm faced with two possibilities: 1) People are really immature in college. 2) Most people are cruel.

I guess there is the 3rd possibility that they are both true...

I did not know gay teens have a higher suicide rate, but it doesn't surprise me.

Im confused, are you saying that im cruel and sadistic and conniving?

Im not meaning to come off as crass with my posts, I just dont advocate suicide as a solution, NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES. I also don't mean to be insensitive but sometimes you have to man up, face your problems and realize tomorrow is a new day.

    Bullies only understand one thing.

I don't mean to offend anybody in here.
