Only giddy would suggest adding a white actor as the main character in a blaxploitation film. LOL. Brilliant.

Idris Elba is widely held as a great actor that isn't a stretch for a new Bond. I've seen a few episodes of Luther and his work showcases some acting that is very transferable to a Bond film.

 

I was just calling out giddyup for using the least believable actor possible for the role. Woody Allen would be an equally horrible choice to play James Bond.

Shaft is a character whose being black is a defining characteristic. That's a character where it wouldn't work in any situation where the actor was white. You'd be completely changing the character's mannerisms and personality.

James Bond isn't the same in that regard. The only thing you would even have to consider changing by casting Idris Elba would be the character's race and place of birth (from white to black, and from Scottland to England). Neither of those things will change the basic personality characteristics of James Bond.
