That's all true. But the Pistons want to get to the Finals. They weren't going to get there without a player like Iverson can still potentially be. They now have a higher ceiling, albeit, a lower floor as well.
McDyess wants to win. That is why he decided to join the Pistons in the first place. I would love McDyess to go back to the Pistons, however this would definitely be a great opportunity for Morey to make a move.
Billups can run the pg position waaayyyyyy better than AI. He's a better passer and defender. He will help Denver imo.
Makes a lot of sense for both teams: Denver saves a little bit of money with the lux tax this year (at the expense of more long term obligations)but more importantly walks away from the flawed scenario of relying on two big scorers that don't play particularly well on offense without the ball constantly in their hands. They get to swap him for a guy that will happily play George Karl defense and be a real distributor. Joe Dumars is pressing the reset key at the right time. Detroit peaked a few years ago, and getting out from under Chauncey's bloated contract gives him a ton of freedom. Iverson and Rasheed together represent over $35 million expiring this summer. Rip's deal lasts for only one more year after this season ($11M). Pistons can either reload this summer, or wait for the mega-bonanza free agent class of 2010 (Prince is the ONLY Piston signed past that summer). As an added bonus, Dumars picked up a box office guy to keep fans from walking out of the Palace this year. The only questions is whether Detroit rides the year out, or if they make additional moves. when did they prove this? did i miss something? are you implying that one game against dallas and one game against oklahoma city proves that we're better when mcgrady sits?
They didn't prove it. AntiSonic is just a troll. The only reason he hasn't been banned is because he's a 1999-er and they can say whatever they want to without consequences.
Um no. I haven't been banned because I don't violate any of the rules here and because Clutch isn't a Nazi who wants to stomp out unpopular opinions.
It's a good trade for both of these two teams. Denver - the history has already proven this team will not go far in the playoffs as long as both of AI and Carmelo on this team, and one of the main reason is that this team does not play defense at all. As we all know, it's about defense in the playoffs, and defense wins championship. Billups is a perfect ideal PG for this Denver team, he will run their offense, and let Carmelo do his things, meanwhile, he's a above average 3pt shooter, and capable of knocking down 3s. Last but not least, he can still penetrate and create shots for his teammmates, such as J.R smith, and K-mart. Offensivly this team might not score as many as last season, but personally I do think this team is better than last year's team. And they're in the same class of the 2nd level teams in the west, like San Antonio, Phoneix, Portland, and Dallas. Detroit - Joe Dumas has promised the people in Detroit that he would make some changes during the offseason, 1st the Tmac Rumor, 2nd the Carmelo Rumor, and now finally they are getting Allen Iverson. This is another good move by Joe Dumas, reason being, in this off season, some teams in the east has made some excellent moves to improve themselves, CAVS, 76ERS, and RAPTORS. In order for the Pistons to have a chance go deep in the playoffs, they know this team is not good enough, because from last couple of years, they didn't have enough offense power to stay with Celtics, or even the CAVS. The best thing of this move is the cap situation for the Pistons in next year, with AI is getting off the book, as well as R. Wallace's contract is coming to end this season. They really have some cap room to sign somebody in the upcoming off season. Their young bench is getting better as the season comes along, Stuckey, Amir Johnson, and Jason Maxiell. Now they are able to compete with anyone in the east, maybe except for Boston. With all that being said, these two teams have made a right move by swapping these two players.
I think you're coming off as more of a troll by calling out established and respected members on this board when you've only been here a month.
By the way, I have been banned before, many years ago. Other 99ers have been banned too, so there goes that theory. And guess what? We weren't banned for not drinking the Kool-Aid of whatever star player you happen to be enamored with. When a poster gets out of line, Clutch disciplines them. Simple as that. The mods here do an excellent job, for a rookie like you to come in here and b**** about them just shows your ignorance.
Stupid trade by both teams. Denver wasn't going anywhere and Billups is no improvement. He's not taking them a step further. They would have been better off letting Iverson's contract end this season and rebuilding. The model of "team-oriented" gets the most trigger happy player in the league. Guys like Rip and Sheed won't be getting as much shots off. Also AI will destroy the team defense with his constant gambling.
I think this trade really shows that the Pistons realize they are falling way behind the Celtics and Cavs, and that they are willing to try something like this to get back on top (or close to it.) It could blow up in their faces or it could put them in major conention in the east. Either way, I say good for them for trying something. It makes the league way more interesting when stuff like this goes down. (like the kidd and shaq trades last year)
I know 1999ers are like the builders of good and justice in the world, but AntiSonic's opinion on Tmac isn't blind hatred. He's been a Rockets fan who has seen the best teams and isn't satisfied with what media person loves the Rockets or what NBA Classic Orlando game is showing. Look up in the rafters at Toyota Center and see what real tradition is about and why us old Rocket fans are Rocket fans. There was a time where people only cared about the best interest of the Rockets and players get praised for what they accomplished. There was also a time where every Rockets fan here knows what "AntiSonic" means.
