Matt Jackson of Sports Radio 610 just had a bit of an interview with Les Alexander on the phone. Main Points Les said that Rudy came to Les and said that the stress was too much for him to take and he needed a break. Les said that he thought the Rockets job was the most desirable in the NBA. He said he's always admired Van Gundy, but he'd look for whoever's best. A big name coach is not a concern, he just wants the best man for the job. He'd like to keep the assistants, but he would be willing to let them be released with the hiring of the new coach. The decision for releasing the info and press conference happened faster than they were expecting. (Translation - It was leaked out faster than what they were planning for) ---------------------------- This doesn't exactly jive with Rudy's telling of what happened. He basically made it sound as if Les approached Rudy on his health, and that it was more of a mutual decision. Les makes it sound like Rudy confronted him and said he couldn't handle the stress. I imagine the truth is lying somewhere in between both portrayals of what really happened...
Rudy.......would never quit. He was so anxious to get started again. He was told to step down. But I have no problem with that. New beginning... Rudy can stay in the front office. BUT PLEASE.....WHATEVER HAPPENS LES.........DO NOT MAKE LARRY SMITH HEAD COACH. I dont even want him as an assistant. Please ask him to move elsewhere.
