Think of all the guys we already have though. Morris, Parsons, Bud, Scola, Patterson and Motiejunas coming over. Add that we could pick someone else to add to the logjam with our earlier pick. I just find it kind of hard to see us taking another player at that tweener position.
When you are not able to draft the top players in the lottery, you draft players who play well against them. That's Royce White.
So, if we draft Royce White, expect to see a lot of something like this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3zgQGfBOnh8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
http://www.nbadraft.net/players/royce-white Royce White NBA Comparison: Anthony Mason/Boris Diaw Strengths: Super-intriguing prospect with lottery-level tools and talent ... Thick, powerful and intimidating frame ... Aggressive athlete that likes to attack the rim ... Possesses great speed for someone his size ... Runs the court extremely well, especially with the ball in his hands ... Doesn't have a problem with pulling down a defensive rebound and then leading the fast-break himself ... Remarkable ball-handler ... Doesn't have the loose dribble that a lot of other taller players have ... Sharp crossover that becomes deadly when he picks up some speed ... Passing ability rivals a lot of point guard prospects ... Good awareness of where his teammates are on the court and skilled at delivering the ball to them in a position to score ... Strong area rebounder ... Boxes out well ... Respectable mid-range shooter ... Has the strength and quickness to be an excellent scorer in the post ... Should be an incredibly difficult player to matchup against ... Won't be a great shot-blocker, but has all the tools to defend power forwards well in the NBA ... Led his team in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks during his freshman season ... Weaknesses: Overall scoring ability is very unrefined, though he's technically still a freshman so you have to allow him some leeway there ... Is not a good long-range shooter ... Shot under 50% from the stripe, which is a major problem considering he spends so much time in control of the ball ... When he picks up a lot of momentum (either in transition or in isolation) he can become very turnover prone ... Conditioning has been a concern ... Is not a true freshman; will be 21 years old by the 2012 draft ... Has had a number of off-court problems in the past, but reports indicate that his attitude has improved greatly ... Was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in high school, which could lead to any number of problems at the next level and has been mentioned as a major cause for concern by a number of scouts. He has had trouble flying and a report surfaced that he chose to go to Iowa State and not Baylor because he didn't want to fly there. ... Overall: White is a high risk/high reward prospect if there ever was one ... His development will have to be handled very carefully by whichever team drafts him ... If he's selected by a team that is willing to both be patient and let him play to his strengths, then he very well could be the steal of the draft ...
" Iowa state's Royce white was crazy good" Royce was the only player he called out outside of his team who said this check it here http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=7769322
Anxiety disorder, theft and DUI accusations, already has a kid... That's a lot of red flags.. Still like what he can bring.
He apparently has the same issue as Shaq regarding his hands being too big. Helps with his handle and passing though. Would be hard to pass up if he's on the board around 20.
So much talent......goodness. But if dude can't fly, there's no way he can play basketball at the next level. Not to mention the theft and DUI. All the same, this is the kind of talent that you take a flyer on because he's got all the tools. Not a high first-rounder. But I think he's got such immense talent that Morey would take a flyer on him with a late first round pick.
I recall Chris Kaman having a similar fear of flying, but that didn't stop the Clippers from taking him with the #6 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. Apparently, he got over his fear. Here's hoping Royce can likewise conquer his fears.
The problem is that anyone that drafts him needs to have a plan in place to help him grow up and deal with his anxiety issues. The Rocks dropped the ball with Eddie Griffin, if they take this guy they need to deal with his issues first. DD
We have new management since the Eddie Griffin days. That said, Royce White seems like a different case than Griffin. He was mature enough to face his problem head on by getting help for it, and he should be commended for having the courage to go public to create awareness about mental health problems. I'm not ready to put this guy in the Eddie Griffin camp yet.
He has flown plenty this season, the issue is more of having an anxiety attack about it on some occasions from what I read.
The Rox didn't drop the ball on Griffin no more than my mamma dropped the ball on me. Some people just wanna blame everybody else for everything that goes wrong. Ridiculous.
