The league knew that White had "issues", but the Rockets didn't care. They took a gamble and they lost the gamble. It's not so much that they drafted him, but that they haven't severed ties with him. It's strange that they continue to allow him to distract the team and smear the front office. And I am on record as preferring Zeller. Selecting Lamb, Zeller, and Jones would have been their best draft day since they snatched up Horry and Cassell in 92 and 93.
I really didnt have all that much knowledge of white coming out but I never understood the passing up of a legit 7 footer that is fairly skilled and a pretty good athlete. Especially when the team lacked height and already had a plethora of 6'8 tweeners
I'm pretty sure that story was proven to be fabricated. Besides, how can you say "he wouldn't have wanted to let Dragic, go" as if that equates to forcing Morey to outbid PHO for him. Dragic was a Free Agent. A coach isn't going to tell Morey to overspend. And how does it mess up our payroll flexibility, anyhow. You are reaching. If we resign Dragic, we don't sign Lin, and we still get Hardin. Dragic was completely Dragic's call, first, and Morey's call next with a little Les thrown in to encourage Morey to go after Lin. So, just stop with the idea that Adelman would have made us keep Dragic. And just stop with the idea that Dragic would have meant we sign Lin too (r e a l l y) thus preventing getting Hardin, despite the fact we matched salaries in the trade. bottomline: Saying keeping Adelman means no Hardin is a really weak argument for saying we are better off right now without Adelman. That argument carries ZERO weight around here.
Was it proven to be fabricated? My point is that if Adelman had more say in personnel decisions, maybe the dominos wouldn't have fallen correctly and we may not have Harden right now.
Getting rid of a beast PG and signing Lin was a double fail. Also, hiring McHale should be up there, I guess in the top 2
Took a gamble, lost a first round pick on Terrence Williams, he lost. Took a gamble on Royce White, it would appear he lost. Not sure the biggest failure though.
We got him back 6 mos later and had outstanding PG play from Lowry/Dragic in his absence. It's only a failure if Linsanity was a mirage.
Too soon to tell but its not looking good. #Honesty I grew up watching the era of centers and enforcers so Zeller would have been my pick, but Morey and his Harden for the 6'8 PF is lasting longer than 4hrs. #Transparency
