White will take a while to get up to speed. He dominated in college and he said he wasnt even to form until around the end of the season. He also needs to be put in a position that will utilize his strengths.

Why would you cut a first round draft pick (deep draft and was called a top 5 talent) who has played minor minutes due to missing a week of camp, in a season half the people want to tank anyway. New team, new coaches, unique skill set. Will take time.

I think he'll spend a lot of time in the D-league this year. Especially during travel-heavy parts of the schedule. We may bring him back for long home stands.

Royce White is very much a high upside draft pick. Everyone in the organization knew this when they drafted him, and the fans need to realize this.

The guy is not going to be an NBA player overnight. He has high upside skills and physical tools. Right now thats it. Morey did not draft Royce to help him win preseason games. He drafted him to be developed for a few seasons to see what kind of player he might turn out to be in the NBA.

With this rookie class, Morey will be lucky to go 2 for 4. Most likely only one of these players will end up being a rotational NBA player. Thats just the facts of the NBA.

The only thing I am afraid of is Royce will quit NBA before his contract expires. The road ahead looks really rough for him. He is nowhere to be NBA ready. Prob will spend most of his rookie year at DL. How will he react to DL? So far he hasn't had the preferencial treatment since he left Iowa State. Hate to bring it up, but will he walk away from Houston like he did with Minnesota?

I hope he is a fighter and thrives under the most adverse situation.

He definitely needs to be playing in the DLeague this year. He's not ready. He looks less ready than Morris did last season. I haven't given up on him, but he needs to work on D, movement without the ball, and his shot. He appears to be fairly one dimensional right now, and that one dimension is not even being utilized.

If the Rockets are going to play Royce as a 4, he needs to drop some weight or do whatever's necessary to increase speed. He just looks slow out there.

You guys still think Royce can play three? I think he's either a 5 or 4. (period)

Morey thinks he's a 4/5 also. I have viewed him as a 4/3. I realize he played the pivot at Iowa State exclusively. But there's a vast difference between pivot in college and pivot in the NBA.

I follow Royce on Twitter. Don't know if anybody else does. I've been high on him. Very high. But I am concerned about his mental well-being. While he has great on court imagination, I sense his mind is a little too open flowing and not focused enough. Hope I'm wrong. Just little things I'm picking up in his tweets. He's obviously a very intelligent man. But in basketball or in any endeavor, it's applied intelligence within a system that generates the most success. Now this bus thing is going to keep him apart from the team. Just don't know right now about him.

And I'm afraid we're gonna bury him in D-league like we did Morris last year and drive his trade value right into the toilet.

In my opinion, we don't have room for all these young guys to play and succeed. I think you've got to make a couple of them look real good and then you've got to trade them for value (future lottery pick). And then you go on with the 2 or 3 youngsters you really want to grow with. Royce is a guy that we could make look very, very attractive early and then trade for a potentially high lottery pick. I'd rather do that than bury him on the bench or in dleague.

Yes, I think if he dropped weight he could play 3 minutes. He's super talented. Remember, Artest plays 3. Look at the size of most of the 3s in this league. He's going to have to play up top offensively to be successful anyways, high post. The only question is can he defend the 3 position adequately. The answer right now is no rookie can really defend any position effectively save for possibly Anthony Davis. Can Royce develop his defense at the SF position? He has the talent to. Does he have the heart and willingness is really the question.

The join date is indicative of someone joining when the Rockets were **** to watch...only 4 people would join a Rockets board to talk Rockets when they have been this hard to watch.

    1. Young kid who just is now figuring out the internet and message boards (probably doesn't really know or remember anything other than mediocrity)
    2. Older guy just now figuring out the internet and message boards but has been a fan for years before (probably a hermit though)
    3. Guy who finally decided to join after lurking for years (probably to troll)
    4. Troll

I think the join date is pretty indicative of what to expect....for the most part.

Best reply so far in this thread. I think White is going to be a good player (and potentially very good), but it's going to take...are you ready OP?...T-I-M-E. Be patient, my friend.

I follow Royce on Twitter. It's twitter so I try not to read to much about a person from there tweets and such. I actually tweeted something & he re-tweeted me. Also, a mental health organization also re-tweeted one of my tweets about him. Royce is a cool guy & a great talent. People are overreacting as usual.

I follow White on Twitter as well. It's cool that he provides a certain amount of inspiration and support for others with anxiety disorders. That said, I am struggling to remember any of his tweets that are actually about basketbal, and not mental health issues. I really hope this changes over time, and that be begins to be defined more as by basketball player and less by his disorder.

I think even his biggest supporters realized that the transition to the NBA game could be more difficult than it is for many with his level of talent. The very things that served him so well in college present big challenges at the pro level.

    Time will tell.

After all the ho-hum about travel anxiety, I can't imagine that Royce's trade value is very high right now. Giving Royce more court time right now will not enhance his trade value imho because he looks lost, slow, can't shoot, can't defend, commits turnovers, etcetera. If I'm a GM looking at detailed examples of his current body of work, I'm taking a big pass - especially considering the question of travel/mental health.

Hide him in DLeague. Let him do what he needs to do to improve his mental health. Have him work on key short-comings in his game. Let him beat up on talented DLeague players - many of whom were talented collegiate players. Bring him back to the team after (hopefully) a couple of months of strong DLeague success. Then play him, trade him, whatever...

Well he constantly tweets things like great win by the Houston Rockets. I try not to worry about what a guy uses his twitter for. Just because he isn't tweeting about basketball doesn't mean he isn't focused in on it. And I think Royce would be the last person to define himself by his disorder first. The issue is that other define him by his illness, I doubt he does the same. And imo it is silly to say just because all he tweets about is mental health means that, that is how he defines himself. I think he uses his twitter as a platform & I can respect that. After all, Lin uses his success as a platform to speak on Asian American issues. I respect players who do that. Prior to Royce I didn't have an emotional attachment to a player that suffered from mental health, that is why I root for Royce to succeed because his success represents a lot for the mental health community. Same with Lin, I am black but knew nothing about Asian American issues. Everything he shared made me a lot more informed about the situation so I root for him to succeed because I now get what that would mean to the Asian american community. I root for the underdog more often than not.
