    Not very scientific B-bob.

Given: Royce played well and flew in the NCAA
Given: Royce wanted to be drafted, play in the NBA, and make millions
Given: Royce had known mental health issues
Given: It is the responsibility of NBA teams to vet and evaluate players they are going to sign to million dollar contracts.

It is however the responsibility of the players and agents to answer truthfully to direct questions and to submit to whatever medical evaluations the teams ask for. But who hasn't had hope and desire color our truest self-evaluation and fears? Who hasn't failed to live up to our own expectations for? Who hasn't deflected that disappointment with rationalization and transference of blame?

This is just a story of high expectations and overwhelming family responsibilities clashing with the complications of fragile human realities. It's hardly a tragedy since Royce will be financially well off and the Rockets have moved on successfully. There's no need for hate.

As Dwyer points out, flying is a prerequisite to a job in the NBA. And I remember pretty clearly White saying in interviews prior to signing the contract that flying would not be an issue for him and that the whole thing was overblown, and then changing his stance after he signed.

That has nothing to do with his disorder. It's just lying or at the very least going back on his word.

Anyway, it's a moot point since White isn't a Rocket any longer, and when the trade goes through, he will almost definitely be waived by the Sixers as well. And if some team decides to take a chance again with White, at least they'll know what to expect.

Given his pattern of behavior, I seriously doubt that Royce White will be living the high life once he is finally dumped from the NBA. His moral and legal responsibilities alone (read: children) are a significant drain on his finances, and it doesn't look like he has been skimping on his own personal spending, either. Without serious income, he will most likely declare bankruptcy within 5 years after the NBA gives up on him.

I'm pretty appalled at how this has all played out. White is claiming to represent psychological illness, but in reality he has set back the community and public perception by years. Fewer teams and employers are going to be willing to take a chance on someone with an issue because of him, and this only serves to further the narrative that psychological illnesses are somehow deficiencies of personal character or a lack of mental toughness/courage. Because in his case, it is hard to explain his pattern of behavior as a matter of a disability rather than as a matter of selfish laziness.

I would have a similar opinion of someone with AIDS all the same if they had the delusions and maniacal attitude of Royce White. Don't kid yourself. What he has is undisclosed and is a lot more than anxiety.

    Seriously... anxiety? Please.

He has not been playing his.... off to get to the NBA. He tricked teams believing he had serious talent in ONE SINGLE SEASON.#BeWell

A lot of good juniors or seniors coming out of college who have more less issues and more maturity to offer that get overlooked.

naah, Hinkie is just doing us a favor. HOU is paying his salary plus we gave the Sixers the rights to Furkan Aldemir. Hinkie is not interested in White.

The fact he got paid at all is a travesty. Breach of contract all over the place.

Correct. This situation is not of the physical or life sciences, modulo a few tricky and poorly understood bits of neuroscience. It's social science, so I would not treat the problem "scientifically."

Agree there's no need for hate, and I have zero hate for Royce. Beyond a few posts, I just have no time for him.

And I guess I can agree with "fragile human realities" if by that you mean what happened to Royce when his realization that the NBA is really, really competitive mixed with his insecurities and an amplification via his anxiety disorder.

I will stick to my guns though that he didn't need to trash the org and go on a twitter war. I think that speaks to his character beyond any disorder or family stress. That's narcissism, IMHO. Cheers. #criticism-not-hate

Right and I don't think many are arguing he doesn't have some sort of legitimate mental illness. However, it shouldn't give him carte blanche to do whatever he wants and make excuses all the time.

Royce is obviously a very troubled individual, who has exploited his illness to rationalize his poor moral attitudes and work ethic. He is nothing more than a con man who lied and cheated to get whatever he could get out of the world, and his chicken will come home to roost....

    end of story.

Royce is the uncle Rico of the nba. The "If coach would have put me in, I would have won state" mentality is proven by his disdain for playing in the d-league even though it made all his traveling dreams come true. To that I say "your mom goes to college."
