The Astros have zero need to make a deal this early for anyone, even a reliever. They are in such a perfect spot to wait it out until the deadline to increase leverage while also getting more time to evaluate the potential need for a late inning guy.

1 run losses don't necessarily have a correlation to bullpen quality. You can lose by 1 run a lot of different ways.

This doesn’t prove your point. Even though I generally agree with your point. In fact I’m not sure this proves anything at all.

Too many variables. Too many assumptions. Lack of a control and a relevant comparison to make it significant.

    Pretty much just meaningless.

I think it’s obvious that the Astros could use one more above average guy in the bullpen. That being said, anyone who doubts Luhnow at this point doesn’t have all their marbles. Also, we’re still a top 3 team in the league.

Plus the offense looks so good. Love that we have Kemp, Davis, and White all either making or ready to make big contributions.

I’m more concerned about Cole potentially regressing and how Keuchel and LMJ will look going forward.

Yep we beat the Yankees and the Red Sox in the playoffs last year.

1 run losses have some correlation to bullpen quality. Not great, but the best bullpen usually gives a team a 1-2 win edge over what is expected in 1-run games.

Let me check further. Yep, Astros have never been eliminated in playoffs by Yankees and Red Sox.

it is they do not have enough shelf space for all of the WS trophies that they are going to win.

I take it you value players by gut feel, and aren't big into predictive stats.

I take it he's just one of those posters that whines for the sake of whining. 12-game winning streak and in a pretty good position to defend the World Series Championship won last season...but yeah, STUPID LUHNOW!

Key word there is IF. Overall our bullpen has looked very good. And even if the closer's role is in doubt as the season wears on, we have a right handed version of Andrew Miller sitting in Corpus Christi.

I would think the primary place you would see it is in walk-off games, because those games can artificially end with 1 final run (like yesterday - if it was a road game, we likely score more in the 9th and don't win a one-run game). If you have a good bullpen, you likely win more of those games at home. If you have a bad one, you likely lose more of those on the road.

We should definitely trade more prospects, though. What would it take to get Josh Hader?

Edit: We should also go after a guy like Josh Fields. Probably would only cost a low minors prospect. No big deal.

The return on investment has already been cashed; in the form of a World Series trophy

I was also disappointed to see that Herrera was dealt yesterday. I'm not sure why the Royals pulled the trigger so early to trade Herrera, but it doesn't matter now.

Last year on August 1st, Jeff Luhnow was a bum and held on to his prospects too much and only had Francisco Liriano to show for a trade deadline deal as well as the ill-fated Zach Brittion deal.

On September 1st, Jeff Luhnow was a f!@#ing genius/wizard who pulled Justin Verlander out of his hat with a couple of seconds to spare.

It's way too early to worry about trades at this point. A move will more than likely be made before the deadline in six weeks.

Though, it is surprising to see Colome and now Herrera moved in June.
