    Rockets schedule workouts
-- The players working out for the Rockets this week will take a sharp turn toward the top of the lottery.
Rockets coaches and scouts are scheduled to meet with Connecticut forward Caron Butler on Wednesday, Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi Community College on Thursday, and Amare Stoudemire of Orlando's Cypress Creek High School on Friday.

On Monday, the Rockets worked out Indiana forward Jared Jefferies, Syracuse forward Preston Shumpert and Southern Mississippi forward Elvin Mims. Charlotte forward Jermaine Williams, UCLA forward Matt Barnes and Notre Dame forward Ryan Humphrey are scheduled for today.

In addition to the first pick of the draft, the Rockets have the 15th pick and a second-round selection.

Stoudemire worked out Monday for the Magic, the first of eight teams that will see him in private auditions.

Orlando has the 18th pick in the June 26 draft and may trade up.

"He's never looked like a high school player," Magic general manager John Gabriel said. "He's mature beyond his years. He's right up there with the most physically ready-to-play-the-game underclassmen that we've ever seen."
