I hope he's as good as Kings fans say. They really seem to like him. But I'm skeptical as hell. I don't even consider him a SF and our backcourt is crowded.
In most cases, despite being the starting small forward, Shumpert will guard shooting guards with Harden checking small forwards.
Can he stop Durant? Is that the qualification for being a useful player now? I guess everyone in the NBA is trash then. FYI the Rockets switch on everything so in the end it will be Harden or Gordon or CP3 guarding Durant anyways(just like last year), even if you did get your mythical Durant stopper.
It cost a 1st round pick to get out of two years of Knight's corpse of a contract. The fact that you get a useful player back who may very well end up the starting SF is a bonus.
http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/page/8 Iman Shumpert ranks 310th in Real Plus Minus, for what it's worth. Maybe he'll be more useful here like Austin Rivers has been, but I ain't holding my breath.
1. Don't have to put anybody on the floor who can't defend guards on a switch. That is HUGE in the playoffs. Probably was the #1 factor in D'Antoni shortening the rotation last year, which may have contributed to the fatal hamstring injury. 2. Shooting. We've been missing it. We need it. 3. A veteran who knows how to do the things that will make the offense work for Harden and others. Some restoration of what we lost with Ariza. 4. No more negative contracts. This is not a deal that's going to give us an extra playmaker or scorer in case CP or Gordon goes down. So in that scenario, we may be screwed. However: This does give us a squad that, if healthy, stands a chance against the Dubs.
We were gonna do that regardless to rid ourselves of knight and Chriss. So to get shump(not great) was worth it.
Its a bad contract this year and this year only. Next year its an expiring. We are over the cap anyways so it really doesnt matter if we keep him or not. It wouldnt even matter if he was being paid twice as much as he is now. We cant sign anyone. Why are you so desperate to move his contract ?
y are the people on this board looking for some blockbuster trade. Were you guys expecting AD TO HOUSTON or something. God Damn get a ****ing grip, I'm so glad Daryl Morey is the GM and not you idiots.
And some of us didn't want another midget 6'5" player listed as a guard, but actually wanted a bigger player and bigger star defender and shooter. We already have like 50 guards and a a midget team as it is. I feel like we need more or will not be able to make a serious run for the Championship this year. Time's a ticking, so maybe Morey has the big surprise in store tomorrow.
Because the Rockets want the best and deepest rotation they can have for this postseason. Reducing the luxury tax penalty was just the cherry on top.
