Solid player, but we don't need him. Besides that we need all the salary cap space to pursue Howard. Nothing to see here folks.....
What does Iggy do that somebody like Evan Turner can't for a fraction of the cost? Defense. Iggy's defense is elite, but in every other aspect he's overrated/overpaid. So sign Tony Allen if perimeter defense is what you seek.
For a perimeter defender, not counting rookie contract, TAllen and Sefolosha are the best bang for the buck. $15M for a SF? He better be a great shot creator. If not, as in the case of Igoudala, he is overpaid!
The Rockets would be dumb to not at the very least be "interested" in Iggy... I mean the guy is a legit 2 way player who immediately makes you a top perimeter defending team by having him on the court. If you brought in Iggy you would most likely move Parsons over to the 4 which seems like an inevitable transition he's going to make at some point in his career anyways. It doesn't mean he's going to be a low post player by any stretch, but he should be able to defend 4's at the very least. The only question are... like so many of these free agents like Josh Smith, etc. -What happens with options 1 & 1A (Howard, CP3) -How much will he cost to keep the Rockets flexible afterwards I personally think that come July 1st, all of the teams with cap space will wait it out and see what happens with Dwight & CP3. Most likely CP3 stays put, Dwight either goes to Houston or stays in LA. Then you are going to have Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Milwaukee, bidding on these leftover guys probably in this order and the teams that would make sense to bid for these players- -Dwight-(LA or Houston) -CP3- (LAC or Atlanta) -Smith- (Atlanta, Cleveland, or Bucks) -Iggy -(Denver, Dallas, Detroit) -Bynum- (Philly, Dallas) -Jefferson - (Utah, Atlanta) -Ellis (Dallas, Bucks) -Jennings (Dallas, Bucks) -Pekovic (Minnesota) -Milsap (Cleveland, Detroit) -West (Indiana) -Tyreke Evans (Sacramento) -Mayo(Dallas, Minnesota) -Kevin Martin (OKC) -Manu (SA) With such a good free agent class this year, and so many teams going after options 1 & 1A, one of these guys like Iggy, Smith, Jefferson, etc. are bound to fall to the Rockets on a very, very team friendly contract if they themselves miss out on Dwight/CP3. So yes, the Rockets will have interest in ALL of these guys.... its just about what happens first, and what the price comes down to.
Translation: Morey wants Iggy if he strikes out on free agency and is willing to take a short term lowball offer from the Rockets.
Iggy and Parsons on the court together pulling a train on defense. LeBron, KD, Melo... all can be the middle carriage. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xZmOn5VzwUI?start=255" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
To be pulling a train, does that go something like this?? (looks cool if it is!) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/foE5vbrziYw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Question: Do you guys think that others teams/agents are pushing for a rockets plan C, even if it makes them pretty damn good, in the hopes that this plan C will help facilitate Paul and Howard to a big market team?
Iguodala will be 30 years old next season. It wouldn't make sense for the Rockets to sign him, especially since they already have Harden & Parsons at his position.
Ewww ... no way we sign him. Josh Smith >>>>>>>>>>>> Iggy (and this is coming from a guy who really doesn't support signing Josh Smith ) I just don't see this ever happening. He's 30 yrs old next season, will eat the majority of our cap space, and doesn't fit well on this team. Specially when you have a young cheap player who is still improving, in Chandler Parsons, who plays the same position. Not to mention he isn't a star player, he's at best a glorified role player.
Say we were to get Iggy..... using him and parson in the starting 5 seems pointless. It would be better to use 1 of them as the 6th man. I think it should be parsons( he could lead the second unit), he could be our Manu ginobli, primarily Then, in certain cases , put them all on the floor
As someone that hates Dwight and not a big fan of the PF market this summer, I'd be good with AI on a reasonable contract. McHale likes the small ball and AI is an upgrade to delfino and still gives our young PEs a chance to develop.
Want Equaldolla, but not at his asking price. No way we are paying him 16 mil+. He is a small cut pie, not the biggest cut pie like Dwight.
Just throwing this out there. In the offseason Parsons' said one of his biggest goals was to put on weight, muscle. I think on a Rockets team with Dwight Howard, one could utilize Parsons as the "stretch 4." That could allow someone like IA9 to fit into the lineup. The "traditional" PF is dead in the NBA. Yes there are a couple of bangers. But generally they are more wirey, thin, combo-forwards. Even some of the larger PFs play in space versus "posting up", utilizing their weight avantage. The game has changed. And with a center piece like DH commanding the paint, that allows a team a lot of matcup options.
You are correct. Parsons would make a great 6th man, but I doubt he would be ok with losing his starting role to go to the bench. If he can bulk up a bit, I'd love to try him out as our stretch 4. Lin Harden Iggy Parsons Howard
