Crazy how we're talking backup for Dwight when we had Black. What a foolish decision by Morey to keep Joey.
Would love to have either player at this point but why would we give upa draft pick and possibly a player or two for a guy that will demand big money as a FA this summer? Thomas is already locked up in a good contract so Morey would not have to worry about him leaving this summer. Trying to look at it from Pheonix's point of view, they know the clock is ticking. They can either let him test the FA market and risk losing him, or get something in return. So, Morey need not go overboad with offering too much as trade bait. He can always pick Drajic up as a FA this summer. If Drajic demands too much money then he was never coming here long term so no sense in giving up any picks or players.
And Black has a better future in professional sports as a TE than a C. Just saying', and I like the guy.
LOVE the idea of adding IT... coupling with PBev now is an upgrade. A playmaker is our primary need... He has a very friendly contract, so even if a better pg option comes along in the next few years, he would be an ideal 6th man providing offense for the second unit for reasonable money... Add the salary cap hike, and his contract is gonna be peanuts for the productivity he can provide... For a second rounder or two and some spare parts - I'm all over it! Then trade the Pellies pick on a center... Kanter wants out of Utah and is expiring... what would he cost?
If we are to acquire one of the Suns PGs not named Dragic, the best answer would be Tyler Ennis. He is seldom used by the Suns, yet he is a former high draft choice, can shoot, can defend and is a gifted point.
I have a feeling this is a BS trade rumor. Why would they sign I Thomas to a four deal to trade him and keep dragic who is a free agent next year?. Just doesn't make sense to me at all. Think it's just bs talk or misinformation
We only got Corey brewer and then smith. He's so stupid.. I agree black was decent but he was by no means a true backup center. Smith is bigger then black
I'd read somewhere that he was their 'guard of the future' and will see an expanding role next season... which only made Phx declaration that they weren't gonna trade one of their pgs seem even more like bs....
Kind of, not really... Similar in that he's tiny, lightning fast, can hit the 3 but will also burn you if you play him too close. Both are out there mainly to score. But where IT is different is he's a much better athlete and knows how to attack the basket. He's very good at drawing fouls. IT is the better player.
Don't forget, back in Brooks breakout season in 09, that he was also a fantastic finisher around the rim, his floaters and backboard layups where amazing. He also shot a respectable 3.6 FT's per game, not as good as Thomas but respectable. Brooks didn't, as has never had the muscle Thomas has though. Thomas has 30 pounds on Brooks, while being 3 inches shorter.
Isiah Thomas is what the 2nd unit needs. Someone who can score. The Rockets are already really good at defense.
If Dragic is truly off the table and other options (Lawson, Etc) aren't available either sure why wouldn't Morey trade for him? At what cost.... That's the question. The Rockets have two really good 2nd round picks this year and can give a rotation player in Papanikolaou or Terry. That's about all I would offer.... If all else fails of course.
