The 09/10 Rockets didn't start off badly at all. They were 18-12 after the first 30 games. Ariza, however, was not good. In any case, $8M or $9M would be a great price for him, leaves the team with options whether you want to keep Parsons with him or let Parsons go. I also wonder if he'd take a 1 year guarantee at a high $ figure (like $17M, with a non- or partially- guaranteed 2nd season). Ariza gets paid way more than his market, and gets to try free agency again next season. The Rockets preserve cap flexibility.
In a normal offseason Ariza would be a typical MLE player. I'd like him at that. I'd be ok with him at 6-8 million. Anything more than that and I'd be worried. And I'd be shocked if we took Ariza as our big FA signing and not match Parsons. Much, much rather have Stephenson and Parsons...
So with Lin traded, unguaranteed contracts cut, we could offer Ariza 9-10 million So if we can Land Ariza for 9.5 million for 2 years, match Parsons. Get Anderson and either Ajinca or Withey back in the Asik trade, we would make out good this off season. Beverley/Brooks/Canaan Harden/Ariza/Johnson Parsons/Ariza Anderson/Jones Howard/Ajinca I'd be happy with that roster, call it a off season.
The chance of Ariza coming back is slim. I am sure he still remembers the feeling of being dumped by Morey just after a season. As soon as Wizards opens the bank, Ariza will be going back.
Yeah... I fear a Bosh-type situation, where the team low-balls its own free agent until the imminent threat of losing him woke the team up and made it decide to pony up the money. A quick look at the WAS cap situation, it doesn't look like that 1) they have the means to pay another $9-11M player if they let Ariza go, and 2) having Ariza at, say, $11M vs. $9M won't make much of a difference to their cap situation the next 2 seasons. http://data.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/wizards.jsp

Hello clutch fans its me the kid who dissed Shaq last year at the Dwight fan rally But yes Trevor ariza plz morey
Well, get used to the new normal. The next offseason will be very much like this one, with the cap rising and more contracts coming off the books for each team. And the offseason after that will be absolutely flush with money, with the cap going up to a projected $80M (due to new NBA national TV contract) and more teams with more cap room to fill out their roster.
