The smartest thing would be 2 yrs and 1 yr team option but CP3 wasn't going to say yes. He could earn 50 mill a year and it would still be smarter. I can live with that, worst case scenario, we suck a couple of years (relatively speaking) because of injuries.

Those traits are not enough to justify a $40m+ per year contract. With that salary, you need to be bringing in championships. Miami, Spurs, and GSW have all built championship teams by having their star players leave money on the table to help build out the squad and not by overpaying a 33yr old injury prone PG. Harden is 28yrs, and should be playing with 2 or more stars to help him win multiple rings. That CP3 contract will make it hard to add the needed help. As for running the team back, the way the summer is shaping up, it is more likely we get swept by GSW next year than us winning.
