LOL. I just brought up Gortat because he's the first player I thought of that would make a better SnT than Houston.
Now we are talking different positions, which completely changes the game. Regardless, your logic isn't sound. He got less minutes and higher stats in his 55 games with the Suns last year. 13PPG/9.3RPG in 30 minutes, compared to Marc's 11.7PPG/7.0RPG in 32 minutes. 6 million per year/12 million per year Regardless of the stats, I like Gortat's mobility on defense in pick & rolls compared to Marc. They are both decent offensive players. Mark is a superior passer and certainly has more chubb under the rim, but Gortat can finish above the rim and run the floor a bit more, and he is no slouch physically in the paint.
It's all speculation. Better than running up your blood pressure thinking about what Stern did to the Rockets, Lakers, and Hornets.
By the way, In 17 games as a starter in Marcin Gortat's career, he has averaged 13 PPG, 11 RPG and 1.6 BPG in 33 MPG... It's too bad that the Suns probably won't deal such a great contract. Imagine the capspace If we had two studs like Gortat and Lowry for 12 million TOTAL...
Until they amnesty Thabeet there is no offer sheet for Marc to sign and the Grizzlies to match. This is all talk at the moment because I don't think the Rockets want to pay to lose their only C on the roster unless it's 95% sure that we can get Marc.
Rockets need a legit starting center. Marc Gasol brings that to the table. Gortat might be just as good as Gasol, and have a cheaper contract. But let's not forget that the Rockets pursued Gortat agressively. Orlando matched, and the rest is history. The Suns traded for Gortat, and got themselves a pretty good player (whom Morey desperately wanted). And they got him for a relatively cheap deal. Phoenix got himself a good talent at a very very reasonable price. If Gortat were on the Market right now, he'd be getting comparable deals too..... But most importantly Gortat's performance last season definetely justified Morey's heavy pursuit of him. Hence Morey's heavy pursuit of Marc Gasol should not be overlooked. I think that Marc Gasol will not sign as a restricted free agent, unless a trade is worked out. Because then the Grizzley's have the right to match, and Gasol would be stuck in Memphis (which he seems not to want to be there, even his brother Pau was hoping he'd find a better market to play in). Hence, Marc Gasol might just decide to be a free agent at the end of the season, if no sign and trade could be worked out. But I can see that most of the Clutchfans GARM approves this pursuit of Marc Gasol.
Can't hurt to ask, but we are not going to get him....if he wants to leave he will simply sign a one year tender with New Orleans. DD
Gasol is better than Gortat but let's pay attention to the elephant in the room here: BOTH WERE SECOND ROUND PICKS! Completely overlooked. In the event signing Gasol falls through, let's make our own luck and find the next Gortat/Gasol. With any luck, we already have that guy in D-Mo.
indiana just trade for OJ mayo for Josh mc roberts & brandon rush. in a sign and trade. I wonder if this signals that they wont sign back gasol? http://www.hoopsworld.com/indiana-pacers-trade-oj-mayo/ yes, i know a suspect source...
No he's not... But seriously, that is painful to think about. Hell, Deandre Jordan went in the second round too. In 2008 we picked 25th/33rd. Roy Hibbert went 17 and Javle McGee went 18... Deandre Jordan went 34, and Omer Asik went 35...
I have no problem paying Gasol 60 million. I had no problem paying Nene 60-64 IF he came with Pau or Marc... For excellent bigs, 30-35 million a year in cap is nothing...
