Lakers have the exact same schedule as the Clippers, so how is their SOS higher? Simple, the Clippers get to play the Lakers 4 times but the Lakers don't get to play themselves, instead they have to play the Clippers which makes them look like they are getting screwed.

Also easier playoff series while the best competition battle it out in the West.

True. It would be easy enough to do something similar, but using SRS (subtracting 3.9 from the opponent SRS when facing them in Houston, adding 3.9 to their SRS when facing them on the road) instead of Win%.

For the Rockets, the average SRS of our opponents so far was +0.52. For the remainder of the season, it is +0.80. Just as another case, for Portland it is -0.71 for opponents so far, and +0.97 the rest of the way.

Good point. Discounting the games they play eachother, the Lakers average opponent SRS has been +0.71 so far, and for the Clippers it has been +0.62. The rest of the way it evens up -- +0.81 for the Lakers and +0.88 for the Clippers.

Ed Kupfer charts! Nice! Folks should post more his charts on here. Always quality stuff. One of the best twitter follows out there.

Good to see the Nuggets at 1. I need them to finish below 47 wins. :) (Also bet Blazers >38.5 [LOL Vegas], Hawks >39.5 & T-Wolves >41).

One thing I'm not sure these charts take into account is the timing. How many back-to-backs? How much rest between games? How many of those tough games are on the road? Etc.

One thing I have noticed is that throughout most of this season, the Rockets have played about 2 more games than many teams, sometimes 3.

That means they are playing more games in less days than other teams. 2 games doesn't seem like a lot, but less rest can be the difference between wins and losses.

everyone on the bottom half (easier schedule) for the rest of the season is in the eastern conference. simply put, the east play more games against the east than the west.

Hopefully this means Portland will slide down the ranking and we over take them!

Cool graphic. You could rename this, going clockwise: "Bad teams in the West, Good teams in the West, good teams in the East, bad teams in the East". (outliers: Portland, Toronto)

It's kind of hard to predict when strong teams become weak teams later, and vice versa.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Portland and Phoenix. Many have been saying that both are pretenders.

I read the other day the San Antonio has an almost perfect record against bad teams and is doing terrible against good teams.

Is it unreasonable to think the Western Conference is actually......1) Oklahoma City 2) LA Clippers 3) Houston Rockets?

Leonard and Green have been out for extended period for San Antonio so I do think they will be their usual Goliath self in the playoffs.

What's ironic is that San Antonio, who occupies the most favorable spot on that graph (furthest up and to the right), has actually lost most of their games against good teams this year.

This is working out perfectly at the moment.

OKC and LAC moving up with their easy schedule. MEM moving into 8th-9th as well. SAS is the exception due to their injuries but they are hanging onto 2nd.

POR, GSW and DAL with harder schedules are slowly coming down. PHO is remaining there with a streak before the Bulls game.

Now all we have to do is win some important games to take advantage of this. It's that simple!
