"We are offering the maximum allowed on a two-year contract," said Daryl Morey, Rockets General Manager. "We are in full pursuit." And not just in the figurative sense. The Rockets are literally going after Barry. "Coach (Rick) Adelman and I plan to go to San Antonio and meet with Brent," Morey said. "We want to give him the full treatment." Barry's father, Rick, played for the Rockets during the 1978-1979 season and is a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. His brother, Jon, played for the Rockets for two years and is currently an NBA television analyst. Brent Barry is a 13-year veteran. Including this season Barry played for the San Antonio Spurs for four years, helping them to two NBA titles. He was traded to Seattle Wednesday in the deal that sent Kurt Thomas to the Spurs. He was included to make the deal work financially and was released 48 hours later. The Spurs would like to re-sign him. The Phoenix Suns, L.A. Lakers, and Boston Celtics have also expressed interest. "We think Brent can be a key piece in our playoff run if we can get him," Morey said. "We think he can help us in a significant way." The first day Barry can sign with any team is Tuesday.
Sounds serious. I hope we get him, because I don't think there's anyone else available that could help us more. He's a cold blooded, playoff tested shooter who doesn't get rattled. Career .407 three point shooter. NINE seasons over .400. That is freaking ridiculous.
This is huge, let's see what happens. So the money saved from Bonzi trade is clutch in getting this done...
Morey has proven to be extremely aggressive when pursuing free agents and other members of his staff. It goes to show why he was such a successful businessman in such a short time. I wonder what he did to get his wife.
is he that good still? adelman going to recruit during the year?? you gotta hand it to morey- he is an awesome gm with a PLAN. something obviously lacking under CD
I have to think that San Antonio is our only real competition on this. Does anyone know how much they can offer him? I am not sure if they are under the cap. edit: Looks like they are over the cap by ~$2 mil so our offer should be higher than the Spurs can offer. Come on Barry, sign up!!
Just curious, what is the most we can give him in a 2 year deal? I know we cannot give a MLE like SAS can, but how much can we offer?
Seal the deal offer him an announcers job after he retires. Brent wants to get into tv/media after he retires. Maybe move Clyde to the front office or coaching staff or something
Man, I hope we get him so bad! It'll kind of be like in 2004-05... Bobby Jackson = Mike James Brent Barry = Jon Barry
Well, I wish we could have gotten him years ago. But, if he did sign, it sure would make the Bobby Jackson trade that much sweeter, and give us some good depth. He'd be a great asset ... but, with his kids in school in San Antonio, it's going to be a hard sell for him NOT to go back to the defending World Champs.
