Is he a UFA? Can he bring any defense?

Not only do I think the “mini” is Glenn Robinson III, but the “family” reference could be his (@Codman ) Milwaukee source— Larry Sanders. See Larry’s pinned tweet:

Cod— am I striking out here?

Nachobar rates his defense 6/10. Long but relatively slowish

That's because he's LeBron James. He can get way more in LA.

Same as NFL, you cannot exceed it, literally, no Exceptions.

It's called a Soft Cap, because you cannot exceed the cap without using an Exception. Even Trades that leave you above the cap require the use of an exception ... called the Traded Player Exception -- better known as Salary Matching rules.

When Hard Capped, for the remainder of that salary cap season, you can no longer use any exceptions that take you over the Apron. It's a hard stop. No minimum exceptions, no salary matching exceptions, no trade bonuses, no nothing.

Is it possible to operate in this order though (using this scenario as example)?

    - resign Paul, Capela, Ariza
    - resign Luc with no bird
    - resign Gerald with the minimum
    - sign our two 2nd round picks with portion of the MLE
    - sign a player with the rest of the MLE
    - execute a trade for Parker

I mean, is it possible to make a trade which would hard cap us after we got all the pieces at their place?

Yes. This was part of the basis of my question.

What is the hard cap amount?

Clutch, the owner of the site, vouches for him. That's good enough for me. Trust who you want.

No, that is not possible. The “apron” level (where the hard cap is set) will be around $129 million. The moves you describe would take them over that amount. You can’t “cheat” the hard cap by going over first. You cannot BE over that amount at the time the hard cap is imposed or at any moment after that until the following July 1.

You cannot even do a SnT (as receiving team) if the trade leaves you over the Apron.

    Same with the non-taxpayer MLE.

What’s the catalyst on triggering the hard cap?

S&T when over the cap, or over the luxury tax cap or what?

    Just curious. Thanks.

    Three triggers:
    Using the Non-Taxpayer MLE
    Using the Bi-Annual Exception
    Taking on a signed-and-traded player

The catalyst is anything you are not allowed to do when a taxpayer (technically, over the Apron) will create a hardcap, if you do it while under the Apron.

In other words, the Hardcap prevents a loophole that Vivi was asking about. You can't do things only non-taxpayers can do, and then exceed the apron. The order of events doesn't matter.

Things you can't do as a taxpayer (over the Apron) which trigger a hardcap:
    1. Receive a player in SnT
    2. Use the non-taxpayer MLE
    3. Use BAE

So to clarify is it any S&T regardless of cap position or only if it puts you over the apron?
