Just received this edit from the Rockets front office: The key to winning in the league is to have a 6’7” center who can move like a guard and shoot 3s.
Thanks for sharing your insider knowledge, please start more threads whenever you get knowledge like this
Or a Clint Capela? Or a Chandler Parsons? Or a Montrezl Harrell? or a Marcus Morris (Keep knocking it if you want to but there is a reason he's still heavily featured in the rotation of every team he plays on)? Or a Patrick Patterson (okay. Mostly I'm just trying to get Carl Herrera on my side with this one).
Capela - 25th pick ( but ended up giving albatross of contract) Parsons - 38th pick Harrell - 32 pick (traded away) Morris - meh when Kawhi was there Point is Morey's draft record in the top 20 is very mediocre. Royce White, T Jones, Sam Dekker, DMo etc
Don't worry. I'm working on some Fishbombs.... ...recently put out some feelers around the L regarding Houston looking to *possibly* obtain some value...I think you will be happy with the results
I just don't understand the logic of people believing he's bad at evaluating talent if he's finding talent where there is less and less talent. I'd also add that a player like Royce White was a swing for the fences pick in which they knew he was high risk but they were still looking for a superstar. Yes, they missed on Kawhi. But just as I responded to you in another thread, the Spurs picked Cory Joseph at 29th right before Jimmy Butler was taken at 30th in the same exact draft they took Kawhi. At the end of the second round they took Adam Hanga with the 59th pick. Isaiah Thomas was taken 60th. They could have added three future All-Stars in that draft and only got one right; and that from possibly the best ran front office in NBA history. Nobody bats 1.000 and to keep harping on their biggest misses rather than their successes is a very small-minded way to evaluate Morey's performance.
Ummm sure but u forgot about Jeremy lamb who nabbed us harden? Dmo wasnt even drafted by morey. Since 2007 he drafted 1st round picks like 9 times. (3 being the same draft and 2 being another). He had yet to draft anyone in the top 10. It's hard to say he drafted mediocre when he never ever had the chance to draft anyone in the top 10. 2012 draft was a wash but u nabbed harden. Honestly only draft I thought was mediocre was Sam dekker and royce white. Hell this is the 4th year w/o first round pick? Ps morey isnt mediocre if u wanted to see a tru definition of mediocre drafting/management look at our Houston Texans, failing to even find a replacement GM.
Who are the people besides Morey that are evaluating draft prospects for the Rockets? Are they different than in past seasons (White, Jones, Dekker)?
I was being sarcastic …. but not kidding. He took Morris , the undersized 4 and the next pick was …. Kawhi , the two time finals MVP. Everybody who was paying attention thought Kawhi would be our pick …. then the air got sucked out of the building.
OK, cool. I figured I was probably a little drunk from the sun / sleepy when I was reading your post. And hence my original joke, where Morey would aim for the player who fit his mold. His predecessor would alwaya try to draft The New Rudy (Bostjan Nachbar, Turkish Doogie Howser, Damn Lanky, etc).
