I wonder what's holding up the Grizz trading Iggy (no any team). Prob. seeing who will give more for him or maybe a larger trade is being worked out.

I read it, I'm just not foolish enough to believe Iman Shumpert would agree to be sign and traded to a bad Memphis team.

Or that a bad memphis team would want to spend $13 million on Iman Shumpert.

Opposing teams and players don't agree to things just because you want them to happen.

    Here's the thing ….

Memphis is gonna buy out a $17m for Iggy. You can get them to take Shumpert on a one year deal costing less and they buy him out instead. Now he gets to pick where he wants to go as a free agent and got paid several million just to facilitate the trade.

As for Shumpert - Why wouldn't he take that when he's not getting more than the minimum otherwise ? This way he gets bought out and a vet min deal too.

Memphis saves money , Shumpert gets a windfall and the Rockets get the player they want - everyone wins (accept for Iggy who doesn't get to pick his destination).

Mavs and Grizzlies talking trade for Andre Iguodala

DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks' long-standing desire to shed themselves of Courtney Lee has manifested itself in a trade offer from the Mavs to Memphis that would send Lee and a second-round pick to the Grizzlies in exchange for veteran standout Andre Iguodala, sources tell DallasBasketball.com.

The Grizzlies' so-far response, DBcom has been told, is that they are unwilling to take on the ballast of Lee's $12.759 million salary in such a deal.

The Mavs would love to employ Iguodala in the starting lineup or off the bench, where he was so helpful to Golden State during their title run before the Warriors recently salary-dumped him to Memphis.

Can Dallas keep this deal alive? The Mavs can pay $5 million in cash as a sweetener, thus saving Memphis $9.4 mil from where it currently stands ($5 mil from Dallas and $4.4 mil being the difference between Lee and Iggy). So while Dallas can feel it "wins'' the trade, Memphis can do the same, as the Grizzlies' net would be the Warriors' first-round pick they got with the Iggy trade along with a Dallas second-rounder, all for the cost of paying Lee about $7.7 million.

Sources tell us that Dallas has in recent weeks been close to unloading Lee on a few occasions, including an almost-done deal on NBA Draft night.

Meanwhile, the Wednesday finalization of the Maxi Kleber re-signing -- which seems on the surface like an unnecessarily premature move to us because it locks up Dallas cap space, essentially leaving the Mavs with only the $12.1 million TPE to spend -- suggests that in addition to attempting to use Lee to their advantage, the Mavs are also seeking help with that TPE.

It's been reported that Dallas would like to pry from Miami center Kelly Olynyk with the TPE, but according to the DBcom Big Calculator, that doesn't fit. The TPE is worth about $12.1 million and can be spent on a player that makes only up to $100,000 more than that. Olynyk is scheduled to make $12.667 million. Again, in our view, that simply doesn't work.

Something else that might not work here: If the Mavs do this Iggy trade and also use up all or nearly all of the TPE, Dallas will be taxpayers. DallasBasketball.com has the Mavs' current commitments at about $118 million. Add in $12.1 mil from the TPE and the $4.4 mil net for trading Lee for Iggy and the Mavs would jump to $134.5 million -- with the lux-tax line being $132.6 million. Something else would need to be squeezed to make all of this fit.

In a coming story, we will attempt to trace the Olynyk rumor while also touching other possible names for Dallas, including other uses for Lee and the TPE such as Danilo Galinari, Andre Roberson, Dion Waiters, Gorgui Dieng and Robert Covington. Oh, and if you want a four-way deal, we can cook one up if Russell Westbrook goes from OKC to Miami that nets Dallas the tandem of Derrick Jones and Meyers Leonard.) But for now? The Maxi signing timing signals that Dallas is plotting for another shoe to drop in Summer Shopping. Dumping Courtney Lee (as DBcom first reported here, a Mavs intention for months, with the hope of making a "cap-advantageous'' swap) for Andre Iguodala fits as such a move.

I don't understand what Dallas has to offer Iggy?

The Mavericks are nowhere close to competing in the West. They'd be lucky to make the 8th seed.

Know your role and take a seat, Cuban.

Find out first if that $160 million Unicorn you just paid is even any good before you dream of contending.

More like LMAO at Mark Cuban.

He's the moron who gave Harrison Barnes a $100 million offer sheet, which allowed Golden State to clear enough cap space to sign Kevin Durant. This idiot just handed the keys to the league to the Warriors because his lame ass couldn't accept rejection after the DeAndre Jordan fiasco the previous year.

Rockets can't do better than Lee, TPE and 2nd????

Memphis doesn't want any salary back it seems. What are Rockets TPE trade options?

If cannot get Iggy, what about trading for Crowder & Bruno?

we can. shumpert and a a first can beat that offer but i wouldn't add a first for iguodala for a few reasons. he can and probably will leave at the end of the year for the lakers, clippers, or back to the warriors. he only played 23mpg last year and will probably play less this year. he was also pretty injured last year and that will only continue this year.

i'd go up to 2 SRPs but definitely not a first.

I like this except I don't think the Rockets can 1 to 1 trade Shumpert for Igoudala. As I understand it, the most the Rockets can give Shumpert on a 1 year + however many non-guaranteed years, is 13.2 million. More than that per year, and base year compensation becomes a factor in matching salaries. Igoudala makes 17.185 million per spotrac, which is more than 125% of 13.2 million, or 16.5 million. The Rockets need to send out, another 685,000 in salary. I think it has to be guaranteed salary too.

I'm pretty sure the largest of the gazillion TPEs the Rockets hold, is only 3.2 million.

You would be correct - it takes more than just Shumpert's 13.2 to get the deal done and requires further guaranteed salary - Only guaranteed money counts towards salary matching.

    Iggy's 17.18585 incoming requires 13.64868 outgoing.

There are instances where minimum salaries aren't counted for matching purposes too - I wonder if this may be the holdup or if its simply about compensation …. or the rumors are just false.

If it takes Iman Shumpert and a first round pick to land Andre Iguodala, Morey should pull the trigger.

The Rockets are an older team and have a great opportunity to win the championship this season now that Golden State has disbanded. Haggling over a first round pick for an elite wing defender and proven playoff performer in the Rockets’ situation is stupid. Especially when that player is prepared to join other contenders in your conference if he gets bought out.
