Martin, Scola, Dragic, Lee, Patterson, 2012 Knicks pick and possibly more picks for Gasol is to much, and thats that i'm all for Gasol, it would be disappointing for that trade to go down. Even though morey has worked hard on this trade for a long time i think its time to back out if thats what there asking for.

Maybe the league rejected it and told the teams to go back to the drawing board.

Rockets have more they can give, Lakers are spent. Hardly Stern's fault there.

Bull****. Hakeem was not arguably the best player on the planet in 1993. He was in 1994 and 1995 by people with remarkable hindsight though. Btw, did Dallas have arguably the best player on the planet? What about the Celtics? Or the Pistons? Did the Pistons win because everyone knew at the time that their "5 all-stars" was going to demolish the obviously crappy Lakers team and then take the Spurs team to 7 games?

I'm suggesting not giving up so much for a player like Gasol. But that wasn't the point of that post. That title team that was mentioned had a shot because we had the best player in the world. Teams don't win without one of those guys. Gut your team for one of those guys, not a dude like Gasol.

That doesn't mean Dwight will get traded to one of these teams though. Just a little more leverage for Dwight/the 3 teams.

Could the fact that the Lakers offered Pau to GS be a sign that the new restructured trade was voted down by Stern as well? Could Houston be moving on?

Hakeem was one of the best. How are you arguing that he wasn't? Dirk is one of the best. KG was one of the best. The Pistons didn't have one of the best, 1 example in what...3 decades?

You win in this league with elite difference makers. No disputing that.

GSW needs to free up 3m in cap to resign deandre jordan for 4y/40m, would we consider offering him more than 10m a yr to bring him here?

Dream was a great player that year surrounded by good compliments. Top that off, 4 of the 5 starting 5 had been together for 3 yrs or so. Think about how good that rockets team was in 93 and how great hakeem was. Dream really had a better year in 93 than he did in 94 his mvp year. Barkley transformed a 50 win phoenix team into the #1 seed, thats why he won the mvp. That year, the rockets was the last team phoenix wanted to play. Yeah, they had problems with seattle, but they were are really good team. They beat the bulls by 14 and 11 pts that season. So comparing a gasol-lowry-nene team to the 92-93 rockets is beyond belief.

Matt Steinmetz: Interesting ... some saying $10 million for Jordan is huge mistake ... others saying Clippers' match is automatic.

Where I disagree with you is that I just think there's too much risk associated with trying to get an elite difference maker through the draft. Imagine if we had drafted Jay Williams in 2003. I think it's smarter to do the best with what we can get, and continue to collect pieces with the hope of making a Steve and Cuttino for McGrady-type trade, vs. blowing it up and crossing our fingers for a generational player through the draft.
