With Asik gone we don't have a serviceable center. Dmo doesn't use his body well enough to make up for his lack of a vertical jump. I'm not surprised we're rumored to be interested in Jordan Hill so long as he only plays back up PF/C not starting PF..
I think Jones can do a better job of defending legit sized PF's. He's a big boy at 250+. He just needs to understand how to use his body better and not gamble so much and keep his ground. I think these are all things that can easily be improved upon with experience and repetition. The legit PF's (Griffin, LMA, Love etc) are always going to get theirs no matter who guards them. He's got a soft touch around the hoop and he's a lefty so that's already a huge advantage. Basically last year was his rookie year since he played very sparingly his true rookie year. I think next year we will see a big improvement in his game not just numbers wise but overall on things that don't always show up on the boxscore. He reminds me a bit of Zach Randolph in terms of being a lefty/soft touch/can make some moves around the hoop. He should keep working on his jumper/post moves but more importantly study how Z-bo uses his body and gets position in the paint. Z-bo is the master of using his weight/getting good position.
I agree Jones is young enough that he can still learn some of these things, but last season he was really bad. Aside from Harden, he was by far our biggest defensive liability overall. Hill is gonna get a decent amount of money. Just because somebody is an NBA GM people assume they know what they are doing, but this is certainly not true. They like most fans will see good points and rebounds and assume he is actually a productive player.

If the Rockets offseason amounts to adding Lowry, Jordan Hill, another free agent bench guy and then a Euro plus Nick johnson that won't be all that bad. I'm not sure we'll be contenders for the title, but we will better.
The acquisition Jordan Hill is not related to Jones in any way. Since we are talking about Jones, his issue isn't due to skills. Its an issue with his motor, he is a low energy guy and that usually = bad defense. I don't think he can learn this because its an issue with his mitochondrion, he just doesn't produce ATP like an elite defender or a high energy guy.
woaahh, what's all this? a reunion? Jordan Hill as a back-up center is better than DMo or TJones at the 5
The value of something is what people are willing to pay for it. If the Rox sign Hill, I feel sorry for all the CFers who will immediately have a heart attack. Most here thought the Rox would become a lower division college team if they didn't cut him right away.
Hill showed some good rebounding instincts and did well in some games with the Lakers, though I rather we go for a proven veteran center.
Imitation is the highest form of flattery, but man I really hate the stupid Mavs and their a*hole owner. It does seem like everytime we hear that the Rockets are interested in a particular free agent/draft pick/philosophy/coach(?), the Mavs are like "yeah, we want that too!". They are like your annoying little brother who wants to copy everything that you do Hopefully they will go back to sucking balls when Dirk retires
