They have no leadership, they don't play hard, or their best players don't....and this is what you get. DD
If you’re not gonna win the championship then the 2nd best position to be in is last place. Teams that fight to get the 8th seed only to get booted in the first round and lose out on a high pick are stupid and will stay mediocre.
They are $10,009,000 above the tax like with a tax bill of just over $16m. To get below the tax they have to shed that $10.009m - Melo & Chriss for nothing nets you 5.64m , leaving you short and two empty roster spots. I think IF they go this route they end up moving EG for a guy with upside on a rookie scale contract and potentially a draft pick along with dumping Melo's corpse and Chriss expiring. At least mathematically that's what makes the most sense ...
I'm actually ok with some tanking I mean just treat this as a down year and move on we still got a couple of years before Harden reups so we can afford 1 year of being really bad if we can get some prime talent in return. Maybe we can get lucky and draft Zion that would be amazing look at Dallas, just 1 top talent is all you need to turn everything around.
I don't know about Morey. He's said the best way to get those impact players is thru the draft and that he was handcuffed in that aspect by Les ?! As for Tillman , I dunno what he will or wont do. He's kinda an unknown commodity right now., They could dip below the tax and tank it up if things don't turn around soon. No sense paying the tax for a team that may not make the playoffs or if it does , is highly likely to bow out early.
Bump for all of the haters out there @Os Trigonum And I am by no means trying to call you a hater my brother Go Rockets!
The jury was still out by a long shot....this is the reason why I reserve judgement and don't jump off the proverbial cliff after 20 games and stay away from these threads. Or it's just because I'm old and have seen it before
We are further in the playoffs than T-Mac ever took us, in a year where we looked done. Harden is underrated.
Pretty much …. we are where we thought they would be , in the playoffs but having to beat the Warriors to advance. The question remains - can they beat that team ? If not … maybe they should have allowed themselves more opportunity to improve their chances beyond this season rather than avoiding the tax. Not spending the MLE this year and trading away their #1 pick in the coming draft …. that's counter to future improvement of the roster.
