agreed. i'm not defending it. just calling it like i see it. hopefully turner is given more pull over strategy. i believe in morey's numbers and our system, albeit flawed, gimmicky, and ugly, i think it can win. however the coach needs to do things like calling timeouts, and running some set plays (ya know, coaching things). MDA went from being a great offensive coach (who's philosophy fit morey's system) to not coaching anymore. we need a coach who can actually coach within morey's system. i worry if we don't find that morey's plan B will be someone who just runs the system as a yes man.
Jeff Bzdelik? Mike Longabardi? Ron Adams? Darren Erman? Jonnie Bryant? Hell, even Jordi Fernandez..... offer Stephen Silas the Associate Head Coaching position. Offer the Associate Head Coaching position to Dan Burke.... Dave Joerger? How many names do you want? Instead we get an absolute retread........ because, well Tilman will learn on his own hopefully.
Ron Adams would have been a dream. With the MDA contract situation up in the air, the Rockets hands were probably tied with assistant options. Rockets did that to themselves.
That's not a system though...that's more of an ideology. The coach is allowed to develop a system, design plays, etc. Then the front office/Morey will look at the data and relay that back to the coach. If a coach wants to run plays, especially early/mid season, I have no doubt that Morey would be open to that. We saw a lot of that in the early D'antoni days. But if the data says they're producing low points per play, they'll be eliminated. If some coach can design and run a set of plays that produce more points than the "dribble dribble iso" then that's what we'll run. It's all about scoring the most points.
you know you are a desperate fan when this type of assistant-hire info excites you in your private regions. This is a very positive development.
