So Kevin is able to choose his assistants but Rick wasn't? Interesting. It's pretty amazing that Kevin chose Chris Finch to be his assistant out of all the available candidates in the league. I mean, the guy had no NBA coaching experience so he must have really impressed McHale to be able to get the job.
I think Aldeman was albe to choose his assistants, but he HAD to have Finch on the roster. He didn't want Finch. This is just me speculating.
Rockets went after Billups as a "special assistant" according to cyberx, but it appears billups was more interested in showing he could still play.

Instead of trying to improve the roster, Morey should look at improving the coaching staff. Not only did he retain the pathetic, embarassment to the Rockets that is McHale - the worst coach in the NBA but he has failed to get the right assistants thus far. It doesn't matter if you have a star studded roster if you have a liability as a head coach which McHale is and no strong assistants.
