The truest statement in this thread.

I want Pat gone more than anyone. But, if the Spurs want him. That's makes me think we should keep him just in case.

The Spurs need him a lot more than we do.

    1. They're still in contention.
    2. They lack frontcourt depth.
    3. We have 4-5 guys competing for minutes at the 4
    4. We have other young talent.
    5. Spurs are lacking young talent.
    6. If we get a pick out of this trade, we essentially lose nothing for a gain.
    7. You have seen PatPat for 2 years now. He hasn't progressed much.
    8. Spurs traded Scola for throw-ins. They aren't perfect at talent evaluation.

That's oversized for a SF, longer and bigger than LBJ's size for a SF. Ppat's combination of size, wingspan, vertical and strength is on the same level of T Robinson in this draft. If he's injury free, he'll be on his way to be a star.

Just because he has size to potentially be a mismatch at a certain position doesn't mean he has the skills to be a good player at that position.

More likely it's just been a slow few days so they're letting this go because it gives us something to talk about other than the usual.

Why in the world would you want Patterson gone? This completely baffles me.

He showed a lot of promise in year one and took a step back in year 2, most likely due to injury.

He is good, possibly great defensively and is developing offensively, even showing that he could be one of the best mid range shooters in the entire league.

He is primed to be a solid contributer to a team for the next six to eight years.

Why would you want to get rid of a guy who hasn't even made it to year 3, which is traditionally when a player shows the biggest step forward and what he will be as an NBA player.

    Makes ZERO sense.

EDIT: Also Morris. There should be no talk of getting rid of Morris till year 3. Give the kid time to put it together.

The Spurs wanted Jackie Butler, then wanted cap relief from Jackie Butler, and were willing to give up prime rookie-deal Luis Scola to get it.

    Oops.

That's probably the best reason to do it. If you keep all 3 PF's, at least one will lose value due to lack of playing time. All 3 are good prospects but there's only so many minutes to go around. You might as well get something (Neal, a solid role player, and a future first round pick). If Patterson doesn't pan out, then you won't get anything close to that. Right now, Patterson is a sunk cost. You won't get "equal value" for him based on what he's done so far. Perhaps you keep him to give him a chance to prove his worth (good or bad). However, you then run the risk having one of Jones or White depreciate in value.

true on 0 levels. The spurs couldn't afford to keep scola, that was a money move and they said from the beginning they never wanted to make it....

Also, IIRC, Scola was about to sign a long term deal with Tau Ceramica, meaning that the Spurs would essentially lose him for nothing (at least in his better years). They felt at the time it was better to get a little cap relief for him than nothing at all. Under the circumstances I hardly think you could fault them for that.
