He is all those things and is showing tremendous potential as a role player. Which is why I am wondering if he could be moved along with Scola and a backup point guard and expirings for a superstar level player. He is playing like a legit first round talent and is off to a better career start than all but a handful of the 2012 draft.

Yeah it clears them up. I just happen to disagree, but then again, that's what this forum is for  I just don't see him having 5 years of good ball left in him. IMO he is on a dominant frontline that is supplemented by the best player in the world. It'd be interesting to see his effectiveness and stats on a playoff team without the bona fide all-stars around him.

It would be very interesting to see Pau's stats without a teammate firing up 30% of the teams shots.

While I agree Gasol has some serious game left, someone casting as a lead dog on SERIOUS NBA TITLE contender might be reaching.Building around him has been tried before. As far as Kobe goes, Gasol's NBA historical stature has been enhanced by winning titles as Kobe's sidekick. Kobe is a champion, whose teams has won 5 rings in 7 NBA Finals appearances. Gasol has benifited greatly with 2 rings. The Lakers problems have more to do with hiring Mike Brown (No more Phil Jackson), the owners are now trying to reduce costs (which meant Odom had to go after his feelings were hurt) and Kupchak's inability to find a better option at point guard. Kobe is FAR from perfect but. to act as if he's holding everyone back is stretching it a bit.

Parsons has played well but his offense is not good. His shooting makes Battier look like Larry Bird. Good thing is he can work on it. He's a very good defender (I'm not ready to say elite) and is very versatile. He's a nice player that needs to improve his shooting to take the next step in his career.

Is this the Official Battier Memorial Thread?

Actually, Parsons never reminded me of Battier. They are very different players. The only similarity is that they are both good defensive players with mediocre offensive skills.

Kobe is a great player and a champion, the best player in the league today. He can justify taking 30% of the shots.

But, even though Kobe can justify taking that many shots, the Lakers would be better off if Kobe facilitated more and the ball consistently ran through Gasol in the high post. They would be more efficient and more dangerous. Kobe would still get his 30 points....on less shots and the team would score more points overall as a result.

Some players are so good that they can win despite not playing the most efficient brand of basketball. Kobe has been that way for a long time. But as his career fades with age, he needs to become much more efficient.

Kobe and Pau are not the problem on the Lakers. The problem is they have terrible options at PG and SF to go to when they are playing a good defense that makes it tough on Kobe and Pau. Kobe is shooting those shots because he feels it's better for him to shoot them than for Artest or Fish to shoot them. And he knows Pau is going to pass into an open shot and trust his mates and Kobe doesn't trust them as much as he trusts himself.

A lot of truth in your post bro,

And Mike Brown is in over his head. Can't manage the personalities on that team.

So our roster at this point would be:

    Dwight Howard
    Luis Scola
    trash
    Chase Budinger
    trash

    Bench:
    trash
    trash
    trash

I mean seriously... In your "dream scenario", Dragic, Parsons, Scola, Dalembert, Pau Gasol, Lowry, Martin, and "expirings" become Dwight Howard. You're the poster boy for Clutchfans' irrational star-chasing.

They are very similar on the defensive end IMO. Defensively, Parsons reminds me more of Battier than, say, Ariza. Different offensive skills to be sure, but perhaps equally effective/ineffective on that end overall.

And people are still questioning Morey's draft model?

The kid's phenomenal, great pick up. He'll be a starter for a long time if he can develop a shot. Even a mediocre shot.

I agree that Parsons is closer to Battier than Ariza on defense. But in general, Parsons is more aggressive on both ends than Battier.

On defense, Battier is more disciplined and conservative. He almost never over-commits and is always alert of the whole floor. Parsons goes for blocks more and tends to play closer to the opponents, perhaps because he has better quickness than Battier.

On offense, Battier is a more reliable shooter. Parsons is much better at attacking the basket and crashing the offensive board.

    Both are smart and mature.

I think you failed to notice this thread is specifically about trading for Pau Gasol. Stay on subject.

    Thanks.

To play on the same team, make super max money, and compete for championships.
