I don't know much about the BBall played in Taiwan but I think the overall proficiency level is significantly higher in Mainland. They are all into Baseball. It does not matter whom you play for or against if it is not high level of competition. Nice find. Jeremy is still the first American born East Asian that plays in the NBA
Lin's salary is fully UNguaranteed, so he's on even par with Marcus Cousin and Marqus Blakely. No cap impact if they decide to waive him. It's at least a little noteworthy that the Rockets would give up future waiver priority (still not 100% sure how that works) by picking him up off waivers rather than waiting to sign him to a "make good" contract.
Jeremy Lin is 6'3 without shoes according to draft express. Would make sense if we traded dragic and had flynn be backup to see what he has / boost value. And use Lin is spot duty against bigger PGs.
With both a Harvard degree and Asian heritage, this move seems to make up for the loss of Shane and Yao.
listen to the press conferences, they're currently playing 4v5 with only 1 point guard in practice...
This looks like a pre-emptive move to nab a third string PG. If all other options fall through, its likely Dragic or Flynn that gets moved in order to clear money for our offer to Nene.
Who cares if he's asian or went to harvard. Let's see if he can earn himself a spot on the roster, I'm rooting for the guy.
It is not out of the realm of possibility that Lowry could be the odd PG out. After Memphis takes back Marc Gasol, maybe the next step is a trade with the Lakers of Lowry and Scola for Pau. The Lakers need a PG badly, and could view Lowry as CP3 Lite. Scola would fit in nicely into the slot just created of an $8.9 million trade exception from the Odom trade. As such, the Lakers would then get a trade exception of almost $13 million, in the form of the difference between Pau's salary and Lowry's salary. The Lakers could then use the trade exception to take on Turkoglu's horrid contract, simulateous with the trade of Bynum and the Dallas pick for Howard. As it stands right now, the Odom trade exception is not large enough to take back Turkoglu in a straight up trade. They have to take on his contract to be competitive with New Jersey's offer, which also includes taking on Turkoglu. With this trade, Dragic would be our starting PG, but we would retain cap room next summer to make a run at DWill (who is from Texas and has not committed to resigning with the Nets).
Taiwan's population pales in comparison to Mainland, obviously China would have higher levels -- Chinese centers are at least 6'10'' compared to 6'6''/6'7'' centers in Taiwan. Taiwan's best players pretty much all play in China's CBA (5 this season). I didn't find the video, I uploaded it. You are right it was meaningless competition. Lin played 5 games for the CBA team and was named MVP of the tournament but it was just a warm-up tournament (1 team from CBA, 2 teams from Taiwan, 1 team from Japan).
Sorry but no way is Lowry the odd pg out. He's about the only thing close to untouchable on this team, and the only hope we have for a decent team this year. And you'd like to see him in a Lakers uni all for a pipe dream of landing Dwill, I'll pass...
