Rockets acquire KJ McDaniels for Isaiah Canaan, second round pick

How so? McHale wasn't ever going to play Canaan (I liked the dude but he was a cheerleader for whatever reason). PP can at least shoot in limited minutes. So we got rid of a benchwarming guard for a guard who MAY play spot minutes and another body to help in the front court for nothing this year

 

Brewer is on the way back to his career averages, and Smooth has been a pleasant surprise.

He's restricted and he's better than Hamilton.

 

This was pretty surprising by Morey. Mostly because it's a flyer on a flyer. I don't think he'll see the floor much this season, and somebody is going to send a decent offer sheet his way. (He's an RFA next season).

 

I love this move! Wanted the Rockets to draft him and finally got him

 

DD-Logic:

Trades 2 non rotation players for a vet who shot 46% from 3 last year and a project who won't see the court, and somehow he thinks we got worse at shooting.

 

I would pay him 3-4. Reminds me of Corey maggette

 

I think Canaan is gonna avg 14-15 a night for the sixers.

 

and we still have the valuable NOP and NYK picks... and Dmo, and Jones

 

Awesome. Now we need to start him as PG.

 

I like the trade but is this really purely for development reasons? McDaniels seems like Morey type of prospect. And he'll likely get a Landry-like offer which we'll match. But this fits more into the Durant-plan than trying to win a title plan.

 

Has anyone even seen him play???

Earlier in the season, he was shooting 40% from 3. His stroke looks good and if given more open shots, it's possible that he shoots 35-37% this year.

He is good at fast breaks and attacks the rim with relentless aggression.

His defense has potential to be GREAT and it's pretty good NOW. Earlier in the season, he was making Harden work. It's difficult to get defensive concepts during your 1st year, but there is no question that he can contribute now.

He'll be a bargain if signed this summer.

Prigioni is ancient - you are not going to win relying on 37 year old PGs.....

For whatever reason, our organziation/team does not want to play young PGs like Canaan etc and let them develop.

I believe you need a mix of young and old....that being said, maybe the Org feels strongly about Johnson and Canaan was in his way.

McDaniels seems like a low risk shot at a player with athleticism.

I am not mad, TBH - just think this is moving the spit at the bottom of the drink cup.

Or maybe Canaan just isn't good. Especially if rumors of him not being a hard worker are true.

He's a shoot first pg with poor d.

 

Most he can be offered is 5 mil. We'll keep him, I think. He's a freak.

 

You think they made this trade to free up like $400K? They did not.

However, McDaniels will probably leave in the offseason. Terrible trade IMO.

 

K.J. with the bench in transition is going to be fun to watch. Run, run, run.
