Disappointing loss in Detroit but looking big picture, assuming Harden and Dwight's health, we're still doing okay. Only 5 more games until the All-Star break and we can truly wheel and deal.

I think the Rockets have held up quite well until now. 33-15 despite Dwight and TJones missing significant time is an incredible accomplishment.

Now, it's time for Morey to come through with his "Flexibility" talk.

Morey has came through and has been coming through. Kevin Mchale needs to coach better and the players need to play with more discipline. Cut down on turnovers and defensive mistakes. Morey can go get the players but the players have to be played and utilized to their strengths on the court for overall team success.

Great post. That is EXACTLY the issue our Rockets face right now.

That said, I hope Morey can get us a starter. I don't know who, but one of Beverly/Ariza needs an upgrade on the offensive end.

I hope DMO will be traded to Mavs. I am tired of seeing Rockets starts idols taking all balls and not sharing it. It seems sometimes that some rockets start will better lose if they can keep their "Cool".

49FGA in last 3 games (94 minutes) isn't enough? Harden had 52FGA in same 3 games and 113 minutes on the court.

This team would improve so much with a better point guard.

    Bev and Ariza are liabilities.

Not to be overly picky with you because it's only 45 but he's hit 27 of them and he's 6 of 11 from the 3 point line in those 3 games with 7 rebounds and just under 2 assists per game. He also might have had an even better game yesterday if it wasn't for that cheap 2nd foul they gave him early in the 1st Qtr and he wasn't getting any calls in his favor on some of those post ups. He was getting hammered also.
The kid isn't an all-star level player by any means but if he takes another step up like he has this year, he'll be right there. You can see that his game advanced in the summer league this year but since he's been given the opportunity you can't blame him for any issues the Rockets have.

It's also very hard to have rim protection when your point guard is getting broken down and the big men are constantly having to leave their man to cover for him.

The "assuming Dwight's health" is a big thing though. Look, I think folk are seriously overreacting to the Dwight knee injury in the GARM, but I will say this. This does signal a transition that needs to take place with Dwight' career. He can't be what he was in the Orlando Magic days, and that's ok.

What that means for the Rockets is they absolutely still need to be building LONG TERM talent, or acquiring LONG TERM talent.

Everyone sounds so desperate to trade the Pelicans pick, and I keep on asking why? When will be the next time the Rockets have the ability to take on another lottery talent that young in their careers?

I'm totally fine making trades at the deadline, but I'd still like to see long term focus with any deal being made. I think the Rockets definitely need to try and go for it all this year of course, but not at the expense of mortgaging the future. The West is too tough, and the Rockets at the end of the day just don't have the depth of talent that other teams have in the West. They need more of that talent for next year, and the year after, etc.

Doesn't look like we'll be able to use the NOP pick as the centerpiece of a trade with NOP being only 2 games out. I think Morey ends up holding on to it, maybe trade it near the draft.

Completely depends on what is available. The NOP pick is going to be one of, I not the, best asset we have to get a deal done if and only if the right player is available.

It always "depends". However I'm just saying the Rockets shouldn't use that pick, and probably not the Knicks pick for players that aren't going to be in the long term plans or will be difficult to retain after this season.

The team needs more talent to build around Harden long term. Yes they have a window right now with a healthy Dwight, but they have to face the facts that its a realistic possibility that he's going to need to transition his game pretty soon, and they need to bring in more talent in the future to sustain a winning program around Harden after this season.

Seeing as though probably the best you are going to get is a Corey Brewer/Wilson Chandler/Brandon Bass type of player at the deadline, it would be dumb to give up maybe your best shot at getting another lottery talent in the James Harden era long term. People here are way too desperate to unload that pick just for the sake of making a trade for a player their friends have heard of.

Trade either terry, pap, Canaan, Johnson, Dorsey and one of our PFs dmo , smith or jones + draft picks. We need a star like or high productive PG. Or somone who can take a scoring load. Maybe a shooter or another but better versatile guy like Corey brewer

    another cute stat

Rockets are 11-4 since Josh went to the bench. Detroit is 8-7 in that same stretch, but yet, you'd think it was turned around by what the media and Josh hatas on this bbs say.

I think Morey is well aware of this. My guess is he will use it in a package to try and get Ty Lawson.

One word. Free agents. Why not go for broke?. We aren't giving up much besides draft picks and posdiably t jones + others who don't really matter.

If we don't go 5-0, then fire McHale.
