Pat Robertson is one crazy mofo.

Robertson called for the assassination of Venezuela's president
Pat Robertson, host of Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

From the August 22 broadcast of The 700 Club:

ROBERTSON: There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

The political Pat Robertson is a joke. If this guy had his way, we would living in a theocracy. I pay no credence to what he says. In my opinion, men of God should stick to God, regardless of what faith they practice. It makes life a lot easier.

It's Robertson, if he didn't say such crazy things he wouldn't be Pat Robertson.

not sure if they are true or not, but rumors have circulated around that al-queda is active in venuzuela and some of the smaller islands off their coasts.

i have a cousin in army intelligence who expects to be sent down there pretty soon. says that is an area that the military is very interested in right now.

remember when this guy ran for President? It was looking good (for him) for a while. he won a couple of states in the primaries if i recall.

even a registered Republican like me would probably choose Sharpton over him.

Well, anyone except maybe Pat Robertson. Where's he getting his info from?
Hmmm, a religious leader calling for the assassination of a head of state. How christian of him  And I thought Khomenei was bad.

    I know, I'm just teasing you. :D

But do let me know when we're pulling out of Iraq, though; I want to know when I should short my Haliburton stocks.

By all means, our American god should get his ass and start killing our liberal judges and international enemies, I mean, we are the ones who pray to him and take up all that money to build grand churches in his honor. When do we get a little payback for all our trouble? Would it be so hard for an omnipotent force to just make Rhenquist have a little heart attack or for Chavez to crash his helicopter. Should be childs play for the big guy, that's all I'm saying.

It is always iimportant to realize that Pat Roberson represents a key faction in the GOP. He ran for President and got a pretty good showing in the primaries. He is the guy behind the "Moral Majority" and the take over of the GOP by the Christian Right.

Like Ed Young of Seoncd Baptist he said that Americans deserved 9/11 because of sin, gays and the ACLU.

Chavez is probably correct when he says that the US has tried to assassinate him.

I doubt if we will see Bush and the GOP repudiate Roberson.

Actually I think he said this happend due to sin, gsys, and the ACLU.

I'm sure some other posters can validate this. It was in the Chronicle at the time.

    I'll try to locate it.
