I've never heard Mueller's voice before. Weird. Sounds a lot more high pitched than I imagined.

And -- probably his main motivation for having a press conference -- he says he does not want to testify before Congress because he does not want to add anything to the record beyond what is in his report.

My take -- subpoena him and have him testify before Congress. He can sit there all day and read excerpts from the report if that's how he wants it to go.

He seemed a bit nervous compared to his interviews and I can understand why.

"If we had confidence that the president did not commit a crime, we would have said so."

Mueller basically saying what we already knew.

He doesn't think you can indict a sitting president. He was never going to make a determination or recommendation of criminality. All he could do was exonerate the President, which he failed to do so.

Given these circumstances, and the fact that things like "collusion" are not actual legal standards, it's hard to imagine the report having any impact given the Congress we have.

Mueller re-iterated his report that DOJ policies, as well as the Constitution, prevent him from prosecuting the sitting POTUS,

which contradicts Barr's lie when he said

the job of a prosecutor is to prosecute and that,
absent any prosecution, there is no obstruction of justice

This conservative Republican lawmaker from Mi hits the nail on the head
    ,
    as does this cartoon

The rules say he can’t even see if he’s guilty.

    he made it clear, again, that it is not his call to prosecute / try the sitting POTUS;
neither is anyone else from the DoJ, which Bill Barr heads

he also reiterated that the Constitution requires a process other than the criminal justice system
    to prosecute a sitting POTUS.

    by implication,

it is up to the Congress to do its job to hold the sitting POTUS accountable for any crimes and misdemeanors

So we can agree this was nothing more than a witch hunt.

    Yes.

All he 'implied' is that it is a separate process. What Congress does with that is up to Congress. Which isn't any different than it was prior to his statement. All he really made clear is that he's done...and not part of the process any more.

Doubtful (on the agreement), but yes, in its substance. Truthfully, though, this wasn't even a witch hunt. It was a witch scare. There never was a witch. The similarities with this are pretty scary.

If we could put this past us, which I doubt, we could be working on bipartisan steps to prevent future interference in our elections. That's the most important part of his statement.

A fake witch who has a career of money laundering with Russian oligarchs and readily welcomed help in a presidential campaign from a foreign adversary and didn't report it to authorities. Imagine Obama campaign staff receiving emails from Putin's regime declaring their support for Obama's campaign and having dirt on a political opponent and readily accepts a meeting for that help instead of immediately reporting it to the FBI.

Please don't make a career scumbag criminal that is Trump into a victim of a witch hunt. He doesn't deserve that treatment and you know it.
