Made more "impressive" by the fact the reason he was acquired was because he was a sharpshooter. One of a string of hopeful hunners/scorers we tried to get. Man, I still remember how excited I was to get this guy in the draft. He died way too young.
I almost had a heart attack, I almost thought it was the Iron Maiden bassist! Nevertheless, RIP Mr. Harris
Yes, way too soon. And he wasn't the pick wanted. The guy before him was. Had a decent career (before moving into the FO, anyway).
Buck Johnson was the next year? i remember both those guys- Rockets spent a long time trying to fill the 2/3 positions in the mid-80s, kind of like how much effort is put into the 4 now. very sad to hear about Steve.
That's exactly how I remember him. How does a guy get to the professional level without having been taught or without being able to learn to ratchet up the intensity level?
Can you imagine having Joe Dumars on the '85 Rockets squad? He was the quite assassin on the Bad Boys. Craig Ehlo Joe Dumars Allen Leavell Lewis Lloyd John Lucas Rodney McCray Hank McDowell Hakeem Olajuwon Jim Petersen Robert Reid Ralph Sampson Granville Waiters Mitchell Wiggins Losing J.Lucas, L.Loyd and M.Wiggins still would have hurt. To this day I wonder who set them up... Anway, rest in peace Steve.
