I always enjoyed his CNN sports anchor work with Fred Hickman back in the '80's. Loved that show, especially when they had Rockets news to cover. I used to watch regularly. <object width="416" height="374" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="ep"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=us/2011/06/25/pkg.gupta.nick.charles.obit.cnn" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><embed src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=us/2011/06/25/pkg.gupta.nick.charles.obit.cnn" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="416" wmode="transparent" height="374"></embed></object> http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/06/25/nick.charles.obit/ Video on CNN from earlier this month when Mike Tyson came to visit him: <object id="ep" height="374" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="416"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=health/2011/06/07/sgmd.nick.charles.tyson.cnn" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><embed allowfullscreen="true" src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=health/2011/06/07/sgmd.nick.charles.tyson.cnn" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" height="374" mce_src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=health/2011/06/07/sgmd.nick.charles.tyson.cnn" width="416" bgcolor="#000000"></embed></object>
Wow, I remember him back in the early 90s when they had their 1 hour recap sports show on CNN to rival Sportscenter. I remember always being anxious to see if the Rockets made the Play of the Day segment. Solid reporter R.I.P.
Back when the Rockts were winning championships, I would tune in to Sportscenter and also Sports Tonight with Nick Charles and Fred Hickman, and Bob Lorenz. RIP
Awful. RIP guy. For all my Clutchfans people, get tested for cancer regularly. I've been battling it for years now. If I would have gone to the doctor earlier, it would have been alright.
Cod, I had no idea. Will be keeping you in my prayers. Hopefully, one day, this disease will have a cure. Nick Charles was one of my favorites and he will be sorely missed. RIP.
RIP NC. Cod, stay strong man! **** cancer! I have several relatives who are cancer survivors, you can be one too!
So sad. Growing up my dad and my brothers would watch the CNN Sports Tonight with Nick Charles and Fred Hickman every night huddled around the tv at dinner time. We refused to watch ESPN because we felt CNN was more professional about the way they presented the sports news. Those two guys were very classy. I always wondered what Nick Charles was up to professionally since he seemed not to be on the air at least for the past 10 years.
too bad...saw a sad segment on him just a few days ago, about how he and he his wife were building a new dream home....only that it was intended only for the wife and his daughter since they knew he didn't have much time left.....he broke down crying in the video when they spoke about the daughter's bedroom ------
Well, as far as bladder cancer goes, not smoking would be a start. People who get it, and let it progress to the stage Charles had (as opposed to the stage Rudy T has) are likely people who have been heavy smokers and can't give it up.
