Well, that sucks! It is going to be one interesting funeral for sure. He developed and played the most recognizable and influential character in sci-fi imo. It's a pretty big blow to nerds and fans all over the world. RIP
His last tweet: Leonard Nimoy @TheRealNimoy A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP 11:36 PM - 22 Feb 2015 Basically, smoking cigarettes in his earlier years killed him. Don't smoke, kids!
cool story bro: I meant Leonard once. ~20 years ago I was singing at a festival on St. Bart's. it was very low key, they didn't really pay anything, just gave you a plane ticket and hotel room, and a couple bucks per diem for food. but, you got a week in paradise, so it was a pretty sweet deal. On day my wife and I were standing line by a roadside shack, waiting to order lunch. We placed our orders, turned around, and there was Leonard and his wife. I said hello, and chatted a bit. turns out he was friends with the woman who ran the festival, and he later showed up at our concert, and a few other events, and I got the opportunity to talk to him some more. very nice guy- if memory serves this was around the time of his BBW nudes.
I'm one of the sad nerds today. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/P9NSpAdGxgU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
A very, very sad day. Both Leonard Nimoy and James Doohan were heavily influential in the decisions of many a young person to seriously pursue the sciences, mathematics and engineering. I can personally say that watching Star Trek re runs in my youth was profoundly influential in more than one way, not only my long standing interest in the sciences, but the use of logical analysis in my everyday life. He and the rest of the Star Trek cast and creators have given so much back to civilization, and most of us will never know how much. Rest in peace Mr. Nimoy.
Oh hell yeah, that was a regular show for me as a kid, along with Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom with Marlon Perkins.
