Oddly have been listening to a lot of stuff lately, after not hearing it for many years. I believe he was recently touring as well… I’ll say this, he was gifted with an amazing voice. He is like Smoky Robinson - I’d listen to him read the back of a can of soup. Joanie Mitchell…. Smokey Robinson… Willie Nelson…Tony Benett… Franki Valli…Bob Dylan … hell even Yoko is 90 and the living Beatles in their 80’s. We are losing a lot of greats in the next 5-10 years…. Bennett may make 100 plus… was touring at 95
randomly, I read a book on the Edmund Fitzgerald this past fall. https://a.co/d/9upzhqT I remember playing Sundown and Carefree Highway as a young DJ in the early '70s.
This is terrible news. I recently changed up the iPod to have indie and folk rock and Gordon is a big part of that. Such a great artist and one of those singers whose voice still sounded like it did 40 to 50 years ago.
The composer to the song, “The Greatest Love of All” ripped off Gordon’s song posted above (well 24 bars of it). Gordon sued his ass (like he should) and they reached a settlement and the guy made a public apology.
He wrote this excellent song, which is one of my favorite Christmas (well.... winter) songs. Sarah McLachlan did a great cover of it.
RIP Gordon Lightfoot. Growing up, I loved his music and always trying to decipher his lyrics because of his voice, timbre and deliveries. I’m going to put on his greatest hits on a continuous loop today in orders to honor him.
