Evan Longoria (if his streak hasn't stopped this year) would have to play until he's 43 to catch him.

Chris Carter has 121 strikeouts this year.

Also, the actual playing time of a major league baseball game is under 10 minutes. Yet, it takes 3 hours to watch a game.

Four touchdowns, and he was a running back.

Kincsem (a sickly-looking filly) won 54 consecutive horse races.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kincsem

Warren Moon threw for almost 50,000 yards in the NFL, even though he came into the league at 28 from the CFL. Also, amazingly Fran Tarkenton is also amongst top 10 in passing yardage all time - He retired in 1978. Football enthusiasts and statisticians will understand significance in that.

Tony Gonzalez is the only TE ranked in the top 5, top 10, top 20, and top 30 in receiving yards, while being only one of two TEs (Antonio Gates) ranked in the top 50 for receiving tds.

With all of the running backs running over 1,000 yards and several getting over 2,000, the hated OJ Simpson is still only running back to rush for 2,000 yards in 14 games. 143.1 yard per game, the man he eclipsed was 133 ypg that man was Jim Brown.

Longest span between first (1999) and last (2014) US Open titles: 15 years - Serena Williams.

Wayne Gretzky had 260 playoff assists. Mark Messier and Jari Kurri had 313 playoff assists combined as the 2nd and 3rd place leaders in all time playoff assists.

From a 3 game MLB sample by the Wall St. Journal:

    17 min, 58 sec - playing time
33 min, 39 sec - time between hitters
42 min, 41 sec - time between innings
74 min, 49 sec - time between pitches

Rasheed Wallace's 41 technicals in a season and 308 in his career.

    Will White's 680 innings pitched in 1879.

Ed Reulbach's two shutouts in one day (1908).

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (at the time Lew Alcindor) was 77-2 in his high school career, and 88-2 in his NCAA career (one of the two losses to Houston, though he was recovering from a scratched cornea at the time).

Donald Bradman, arguably the greatest sportsman ever, averaged just shy of 100 runs (a century) in international cricket. The next greatest batsman in history averaged 60 runs.

He also did this during an age of uncovered pitches (causing a very hazardous playing surface) and next to no safety gear facing bowlers almost as fast as today.

Explain to me why a pitching coach/manager has to call time out when going to the mound to talk to a pitcher when runners are on base.

This is not an accurate accounting of time the ball is in play. Some dudes appear to be claiming the ball is in play only when a batter is in the batter's box or the ball is hit and runners are running (I assume).

I don't agree with this. This is not the rule book definition of ball in play, is it?

If there is a runner on base, then the ball is in play for the entire time someone other than the umpire has it, or timeout has been called by a manager/coach, or it in the stands as a foul ball. Since runners can advance at any time, and the defender can attempt to throw and tag a runner out at any time, then the ball is in play.

You essentially need to add the times when there is a runner.

Former Colt .45's RF John Paciorek's career numbers: 1.000/1.000/1.000/2.000

Paciorek went 3 for 3 with 2 walks in 5 plate appearances on September 29, 1963 (two days after Houston started a line-up of 9 rookies) in his only major league appearance. He also scored 3 runs and drove in 4. He missed the next 2 seasons with a back injury and spent the rest of his career in the minors. He's the only major leaguer to have a perfect line with as many as 5 plate appearances.

    Sugarland High RB Ken Hall

    4,045 yards (12 games) 1953
    337.1 yards per game 1953
    32.9 points per game 1953
    11,232 yards (career) 1950-1953

According to Hall there were a lot of games where he only played one quarter. In one game, he scored the first three times he touched the ball; returning the opening kickoff for a TD, the opposition's first punt for a TD and scored on the first play from scrimmage. In another, he scored an 80 yard TD on the first play which was called back for offside so, he ran the same play to the other side for an 85 yard TD. Against Houston Lutheran he scored all 49 points, 7 TD's and 7 XP's. He returned a kick, punt and INT for TD's and rushed for 520 yards. He went to A&M, but Bear Bryant ran him off because he didn't like him. He played for the Oilers in '60 and '61.

There's an SI story on him a little ways down: http://cecilbuffington.com/rich_text_7.html

Maybe a link to that Wall St Journal article you cited would help me.

I'm pretty sure "Time Between Pitches" while a runner is on base is a live ball situation...thus counts as playing time; therefore, why players/coaches have to call "Time Out" if they want to have a meeting at the pitchers mound when runners are on base.

He's also the only center to ever lead the NBA in assists. Plus a bunch of other ridiculous stuff, like the only player to record a triple-20 (20 points, rebounds, and assists), the only player to score 40 points and grab 40 rebounds in a game (which he did five times), most double-doubles, most consecutive double-doubles, and most consecutive triple-doubles.

And yet there are still people who think it's indisputable that Michael Jordan is the best basketball player ever. Guys, he may be, but it's hardly indisputable!

Moving on to someone else, Greco-Roman wrestler Aleksandr Karelin went thirteen years without a loss and six years without a point scored against him, making him universally considered the greatest wrestler ever.

Speaking of wrestlers, MMA fighter Dan "The Beast" Severn competed in matches well into his 50s. He recorded over 100 wins, including eleven in a row from the time he was 51 until the time he turned 53.
