Look at the title Lou. Who gave the nick rick the ruler? What group of fans dislike rick here? What incident?
That stuff is more personal junk between posters. Like how people don't like Lin because Lin fans are so annoying. I don't think anyone in their right mind says RA is not a great coach. He just has his flaws and isn't going to succeed everywhere, and in this case McHale was a good choice and it worked out really well. People can argue whether or not we'd be in the same position with RA. I don't think we would. Not because he isn't a great coach, but because we'd have different personnel that wouldn't necessarily fit his style. I think that's what people are really trying to say here and the rest is just a bit of mud slinging from trampled feelings from long ago.
That's my point. You don't have to diss Adelman in order to like McHale. Some McHale apologists seems to feel the need for that. Or maybe it's the reverse. Some Adelman haters feel the need to prop up McHale to justify getting rid of Adelman. I just think this kind of mentality is very twisted. I did not think it was justified to get rid of JVG. But I gladly embraced Adelman's coaching. There was at least a somewhat legitimate excuse to let JVG go because of the playoffs failure, and there was the opportunity for getting a HOF coach. McHale is like Terrence Jones. He has improved quite a bit from his rookie stint and has shown promise. But he has hardly achieved anything special compared to the other coaches we had, given the kind of roster he has. Like Jones, if he has a stellar performance in the playoffs, he will deservedly be elevated to another level. But that hasn't happened yet. And you don't diss a guy who has done a good job in the past for the Rockets just to prove that drafting Terrence Jones was a right move.
Oh it's quite clear. Rick Adelman was the last coach that won a playoff series for the Rockets. And the last Rockets to win against the Blazers. I'm glad you made this thread, like it was great when that dude made the titanic
Honestly, I'm not here to rub anything in...all us rockets fans are feeling it today and will probably wake up to it tomorrow morning too. I just want to see what page everybody is on. Its obvious (as it has always been) that coaching and a disciplined strategy implemented by said coach are vital in the postseason. Morey was incorrect about his assessment on the effectiveness of coaches and 3 chucking. People need to realize that everything that he says is not equivalent to the word of god. Coaches like Adelman, who apparently didn't have anything to do with the rockets success according to some in this thread, just showed their worth.
No way we lose this series if Adelman was coaching this team. Absolutely NO WAY. Let this be a lesson to Morey that NBA coaching, especially in the playoffs, matters a lot.
