In a chronicle article today, Rice talks about when he first got the word that he was being traded to the Rockets: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/1142702 Rice was on the golf course in Miami when he got the word. He hung up to announce to his playing partners that the Knicks had dealt him to the Rockets, and a member of his group told him what to expect. "He said, `Oh my God, you're going to love it there,' " Rice related. "He said he loved it there. He said, `You're going to really love it, man, the coaching staff. The people in Houston are great people.' "And he wasn't lying. There has been no disappointment." The recommendation came from Scottie Pippen.
Great article all around..... Kind of gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling about the team and Glen Rice
awwwwwwwwwwwww but scottie pippen.... i'm sorry but if pippen said that about houston why did he say those things about barkley? which is beginning to make me question barkley....
tycoonchip, it means don't think too much about the meaning of a #33 quote. All it means is he loved the coaching staff, but quit to jump ship to ride someone else's coattails; and he needed one loud quote to do it. Or, Rice is one awesome, lying politico trying to win favor with the Rockets coaching staff, and #33 never said that.
I never remembered Pippen saying anything horrible about the city itself. He just didn't get along with Barkley and didn't know his role on this team. I do recall him being a bit unhappy when he was traded to Portland.
This article makes me glad that Barkely came in here and got rid of Quitten and Drexler. Think about how much money we would have to pay those two guys, Pippen would still be here earning 18 mil a year, bricking shots and being a malcontent. Which player is the worse deal Quitten at 18 mil or Cato at 7 mil?
Walt Williams: 5 million Kelvin Cato: 6 million Quitten: 18 million Only bright spot to having pippen? If he retired early with some sort of nagging/chronic injury, we'd get a magnificently huge injury exception. lol. I think even Portland would rather have Walt's expiring contract and Kelvin Cato right now over Pippen's 18million. They have 3 players who can play SF. No one but Rasheed taller than 6'11. They're over the Salary by trillions. It would be a better situation for them....
